i love Led Zeppelin and all but i hate that song

and i really hope somebody can explain why it's raved about so much

Can't help ya. I think it's tired and uninteresting. The lyrics and metaphors are dumb, and the instrumentation's pretty sub-par, especially for who was responsible for it.

Like you, I love some Zeppelin, but this song just doesn't do it for me.

For me it's the way the song starts out very sad and somber and then rocks out at the end. It's a great journey.

It's great because it reminds some of us of an earlier time. It will happen with you too, with another song, if you live long enough (when you'll become less critical). Perhaps there is already a song that you have known, that others aren't that excited about, that takes you back. It's called Nostalgia. It happens for most of us, eventually.

Big Zep fan here and Stairway isn't even in my top 20 zep songs but what i tell you what is so special about it...the solo. Absolute perfection and when it kicks in it elevates an average song into something more than that. Otherwise give me The Rain Song anyday.
