The Sylvers - Underrated R&B/Pop

...
On of my favorite family groups growing up...IMO, never quite got their due--unfortunately overshadowed by Motown, by The Jacksons in the Seventies, and by Debarge in the Eighties....and now a lot of folks only hear the big hits like Boogie Fever and Hotline...(though Leon Sylvers III would later make a mark with his writing and production for Solar Records..)

The Cry Of A Dreamer

P.S.-The Unfinished Letter

The Sylvers I(album)

Foster Sylvers - Misdemeanor

Sylvers - Something Special(album)

Sylvers - New Horizons

The Sylvers - I Remember

Sylvers - Wish You Were Here('74)

Sylers - Fallin' For Your Love

Sylvers - You Turn Me On

Sylvers - Let My Love Shine In

The Slyvers were cool. I dug "Hotline". I actually wrote a thread on here about Foster's "Misdemeanor". Now THAT'S the jam.

They're a couple of "Greatest Hits/Best of" CDs available, but IMO they really don't do them justice...it'd be great if someone would at least put out a double disc compilation, if not release the original albums....

The problem with all the Sylvers compilations on the market is that it is only from their MGM era and not the early Pride Records schitt, which is the best stuff.

Actually the MGM era includes Sylvers III but... how can you assemble a "best of" and disregard I and II?

Cynthia Horner : "Has anyone ever told you that you lool like one of The Sylvers?"

Prince: "Is there anything that I can do to change that?"

Right On! Magazine interview 1978.

Despite that they were a great under rated group. JET magazine did a nice "Where Are They Now" piece on them just recently. Leon III did some funky stuff with his group DYNASTY. I think he also played bass and drums on The Whispers jam "The Beat Goes On".

Damn, lol

But yeah, Leon Sylvers was a big part of Solar Records' writing and production.
he wrote and produced hits for Shalamar ("The Second Time Around", "A Night To Remember"), The Whispers ("And the Beat Goes On,", "It's A Love Thing", "I Can Make It Better", "In The Raw", "Tonight"), Dynasty ("I've Just Begun to Love You"), Gladys Knight & The Pips ("Save the Overtime (For Me)"), Evelyn "Champagne" King ("Flirt," "Hold on to What You Got"), Stacy Lattisaw, the Spinners, Gina Foster, Krystol, The Brothers Johnson, Glenn Jones, Howard Hewett, Lakeside, etc....

Thank you for compiling all of this! I didn’t know so much was out there.

I have to say there was a time when the Sylvers overshadowed the Jackson Five in my house. Unfortunately, I only ended up with one album by them.

Don’t Stop sounds familiar but I can’t recall how it goes.
