THRILLER 25

I just found out how well this album has done, it has sold around 1.7 million on the world chart and a further 550,000 in America, 2.2 million copies sold in total since February.

This just shows that if Michael were to release an album he still has major sellability.

Actually I cant think of an album this year which has sold 2million worldwide as yet, maybe someone can correct me on that.

It's doing very well, but that doesn't mean there's a big market for new MJ. I remember when Invincible was released here in the UK in 2001. It bombed totally. Within a month it left the Top 40 all together. Then just two years later he released his greatest hits album The Number Ones and it sold by the bucketload, even though he'd been arrested on charges of paedopholia. It was obvious right then, that he'd become a nostalgia act. People had warm feelings for what he'd done in the past, but distaste for his current state. A friend of mine who can't stand what Michael's become bought Thriller 25 two weeks ago. It reminds him of his childhood I guess. He would not have the same feelings about a brand new MJ album.

Invincible was out of the Top 40 in 5 weeks and was out of the US top 40 in 16

It's pretty much the less favorite for alot of fans

I still remember waiting for that shit lol

also can i just add that invincible sold half a million copies with one single release and video and zero promotion after that. That was michaels choice to stop promoting his own album and rebel against the record company. Its sales were also very strong in the U.S., it sold around 2.2million copies after 8 weeks.

Would've been stronger if Michael decided to promote it but that's when he had problems with Sony and that whole "devilish" rant episode.

I'm glad invincible didnt do well. It's shit.

8 millions worldwide is still good though I guess

I was kinda hoping Thriller 25 would flop, so maybe he'd work on new material as religiously as he did on past albums.

Yeah I would've definitely done a different video. And with another girl, lol. He could just have sung it in a black or white setting. But Mike likes to go over the top, lol.

I am not that fond of the last picture either. That style does not work for me, but the first one is HOT!

Exactly. That ain't something to be proud of for an artist of his stature. By comparison "The Number Ones" stayed in the Top 40 for about 6 months. There is obviously a big gap between how people view the old MJ and the current one.

It also has to do with promotion

Alot of people in the States didn't even know it was out the week it was released. Keep in mind that the singles weren't promoted much lol

A huge number of people found out it's release when the 30th Anniversary Special aired a couple of weeks later. It was the best selling R&B album in the California area of 2002

Heaven Can Wait wasn't a single but it charted at #72 on the R&B charts, it's one of the highlights from the album.

Heaven Can Wait
Whatever Happens
Don't Walk Away

all could have been singles

I've been looking at the casebook edition of Thriller 25. I think outtakes from the videos, especially Thriller would've been a welcome addition
