David Bowie to release 'Ziggy Stardust' live album from the NME
http://www.nme.com/news/d...owie/35950 David Bowie will release a live album, 'David Bowie, Live Santa Monica '72' on June 30 on CD and double vinyl. The album is a recording from Bowie's gig at the Los Angeles Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on October 20, 1972. The gig was part of Bowie's 'Ziggy Stardust' US tour. In a statement to NME.COM, Bowie said of the recording: "I can tell that I'm totally into being Ziggy by this stage of our touring. It's no longer an act; I am him. "This would be around the tenth American show for us and you can hear that we are all pretty high on ourselves. We train wreck a couple of things, I miss some words and sometimes you wouldn’t know that pianist Mike Garson was onstage with us but overall I really treasure this bootleg. Mick Ronson is at his blistering best." The track-listing for 'David Bowie, Live Santa Monica '72': 'Introduction' 'Hang On To Yourself' 'Ziggy Stardust' 'Changes' 'The Supermen' 'Life On Mars?' 'Five Years' 'Space Oddity' 'Andy Warhol' 'My Death' 'The Width Of A Circle' 'Queen Bitch' 'Moonage Daydream' 'John, I'm Only Dancing' 'I'm Waiting For The Man' 'The Jean Genie' 'Suffragette City' 'Rock 'N' Roll Suicide'

I'm not into Bowie (yet?), but I read his statement and I have to say it's refreshing to hear someone who wants to release a concert warts and all, rather than pick a different show or do a mix and match.

It would be nice if he'd release one that has never been released before. All of these re-issues are getting tired. "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

Vinyl?! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yeah, but this one's been out a couple of times already, as a semi-legal release. So yaaaawn! I will get it though. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Very hot. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

Even the bloody blasted Glass Spider Tour has a live album. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Beautiful....The studio album is one of my all time faves by anyone. I have footage of his live shows from this tour as well. I ADORE this shit. So, this will complete it. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Bowie and Costello both suffer from Reissue madness.
You need an encyclopedia to keep track of what tracks are on what. I like that they release outtakes and bonus, but it's getting old. They should start to go direct like Phish or Ani and release stuff for $10 via lossless download and cd's. Music is the best...

Agreed. While I understand he may have a reluctance to play live/ tour following his rumoured heart attack a few years back (I know he's done the odd live appearance since, but only guesting doing one or two songs IIRC), I'm still not sure what the deal is with the virtual famine of new Bowie studio material since then. From what can be gathered, his health seems to have been stable since that time, so I doubt it's directly health-related. I've heard it said he might be disillusioned with the music industry, but if he had completed anything interesting in the studio, I'd say that Bowie, like Prince, would be like a kid with a new toy, wanting to show the world what he done. That said, after a serious health episode like that, priorities can change. If he just wants to kick back for now (or forever even), spend time with his young family etc, he's already given more than most already. But, selfishly, I'm just in the mood for a truly mad new Bowie record .

But yes, we're selfish bastards and want some Bowie, too! My best friend actually knows someone who was his nurse when he had the emergency operation in Hamburg in 2004. Had his people get him a bigger TV that he donated to the hospital afterwards!

New stuff from Bowie? I hope so, but the only info I know of is some work with the Arcade Fire & TV on The Radio on albums released in the last 2 years or so.
In regards to the Santa Monica/Ziggy rerelease, I hear it is superior to the motion picture soundtrack, so thi would be of interest to me. "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."
