I just heard Brad Paisley's 'I'm Still A Guy' and I am offended

The last verse especially makes me sick. Do you need a gun in your truck to be 'a guy?'

Do most straight guys subscribe to this rule? Just wondering.

Here are the lyrics:

When you see a deer you see Bambi
And I see antlers up on the wall
When you see a lake you think picnics
And I see a large mouth up under that log
You're probably thinking that you're going to change me
In some ways well maybe you might
Scrub me down, dress me up oh but no matter what
remember I'm still a guy

When you see a priceless French painting
I see a drunk, naked girl
You think that riding a wild bull sounds crazy
And I'd like to give it a whirl
Well love makes a man do some things he ain't proud of
And in a weak moment I might walk your sissy dog, hold your purse at the mall
But remember, I'm still a guy

I'll pour out my heart
Hold your hand in the car
Write a love song that makes you cry
Then turn right around knock some jerk to the ground
'Cause he copped a feel as you walked by

I can hear you now talking to your friends
Saying, "Yeah girls he's come a long way"
From dragging his knuckles and carrying a club
And building a fire in a cave
But when you say a backrub means only a backrub
Then you swat my hand when I try
Well, now what can I say at the end of the day
Honey, I'm still a guy

And I'll pour out my heart
Hold your hand in the car
Write a love song that makes you cry
Then turn right around knock some jerk to the ground
'Cause he copped a feel as you walked by

These days there's dudes getting facials
Manicured, waxed and botoxed
With deep spray-on tans and creamy lotiony hands
You can't grip a tacklebox

Yeah with all of these men lining up to get neutered
It's hip now to be feminized
I don't highlight my hair
I've still got a pair
Yeah honey, I'm still a guy

Oh my eyebrows ain't plucked
There's a gun in my truck
Oh thank God, I'm still a guy

Yes that song is definetly more offensive to guys then to women. If thats being a guy I'm glad I'm not one.

Eh, whatever. shrug It appeals to a certain country demographic, and my guess is he didn't even write this. If you've ever caught a Brad Paisley interview or seen his family pics in any number of women's mags, he certainly comes off very much as the domesticated pup he seems to be dissing here. I kinda like him, actually. lol

While I agree that there is a sort of unfortunate neutering or feminization of men going on (and I'm gay!), the lyrics to this are just dumb and way over the top.

A completely wrong-headed response to the issue. Though I doubt he's actually even trying to address "the issue."

I love this song! For one, it's funny. It's not meant to be super serious.

For another, it's based on the stereotypical small town type of guy, not every man. Most country songs are female-centric, doing anything to keep a girl, to get a girl, worship of women, etc. So this song comes along and it's really different from a lot of the stuff out there because it's more male-centric for once.

Honestly, I'm tired of the messages that us guys need to be all civilized all the time and such to be any good. Men are demoralized in our society in the same way women are objectified. Things like this song, Maxim, The Man Show aren't necessarily the best ways to combat these messages but the song's something a step in the right direction even if in a wink wink sorta way.

As a Southerner who is surrounded by this imagery, my problem is not with your point, but with the guys who are making it.

These so-called "country" stars who think a cowboy hat and catchphrases make you a good ole boy.

There are no Johnny Cashes, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggards or Kris Kristoffersons in today's biz. Most of these big-name male "country" stars are
closeted metrosexuals.

I'm fine with a man highlighting his hair, wearing lotion, etc. but I'm glad to see there are men that don't like these things. That means they probably aren't shaving or trimming the pubic hair on their dicks either because nothing looks more sissified and gross than a manicured dick.

I guess I'm just not seeing it. Most straight men seem to be scared to death of being seen as anything other than completely straight...

As someone who's in the country biz, I can tell you it's changed quite a bit since Johnny, Merle, and Waylon were doing their thing. Image is a much bigger part of it these days than it ever was back then. I think it's possible to still be a "man" and still use hair products and dress well.

There are some of the "cowboy hat & catchphrase" guys out there, and while some of them are popular, you can see thru them. It's an act. But then again, how many artists out there put on something of an act when they play? It's just like all these rappers tell us that they're thugs and all while you and I both know none of them have ever been in the same ROOM with a gun. It's the music business and the industry sells more images than they do music. The music is part of the image moreso than the other way around. Just because the guy isn't a hick doesn't make the point less valid.
