Well, the Bonnie and Clyde video came out in 2002.

B appeared in the Izzo video which was released in 2001.

Jay appeared in a Bootylicious remix video which was released, i think, in 2001 as well.

So around then...

..and they could have easily been friends or aquaintences before that too.

Herein lies the problem with modern music today. From Prince (who, IIRC has headlined before) to Parliament to Vernon Reid to Me'Shell Ndegeocell, Van Hunt, Res, Martin Luther or (fill in artist here), there are plenty of black musicians they could have asked to perform. But Jigga? Really?

He isn't even the best MC when it comes to live concerts. There can be legitimate reasons for rock fans not to like hip-hop. But if black musicians got more of a push in the industry today Glastonbury wouldn't have a problem diversifying the show.

How is that racist? Why would they schedule a shit hop artist to play at a rock concert anyway? I realize that shit hop is all over on the pop side (which is why it refuses to die) but not everyone likes it, especially lovers of real music.

As far as racism goes, I have been to funk concerts with an all black audience and a shit hop artist might be scheduled to be an opening act. The audience has booed and would have throwed bricks, if they had some, because most lovers of funk hate shit hop also. Why? Because shit hop is a bunch of talentless nothing bullshit. Shit hop has already invaded everything else and they need to keep it the hell out of our shows because we need somewhere to escape the bullshit and hear shit that we like.

Damn i don't know which was funnier this post or the camel joe joke from

I really don't believe this has anything to do with race. Jay-z is the wrong artist for this type of audience, its like The Kooks opening for Britney, it just dosn't work. I dislike Noel and his band but I agree with him. Ay Ya Ya

Eaxctly. Its unbelievable how many people on here look for racism as the excuse for anything negative that involves a black person.

Jay Z is simply the wrong headline act for a traditional rock festival. They could have slipped him on the bill, or even given him the Verve's slot, but the fact is Glastonbury have failed to land a key Headliner.

I think they left it too late, hoping to land Radiohead or Coldplay. By the time those two had dismissed the offers, the other big bands were already signed up.

I mean, come on, The Cribs, The Verve, Leonard Cohen, Neil Diamond, Jay Z? And The Kings Of Leon as a headline act!?! Please. The whole line up seems to be has-beens and wannabes.

If you think that's what people are saying in this thread, then you haven't read all of the posts...

No one is commenting that people are racist just because they object to Jay Z being the headliner of a major UK rock festival...That's silly...

I think people have a problem with some of the code words people have been using...I mean whenever you have someone saying something about locking up your belongings because of Jay Z's fans, as I read from one of the folks on a UK site, I object to such comments...

I guess you are cool with Org statements like, "I had no idea that throwing a few random studio musicians behind you to slightly flesh out your shit "music" somehow made ignorant babbling, and stumbling around a stage smoking weed legit..." LOL

You want ME to read whats gone before?? Where the hell did I imply that I agreed with the comments you have mentioned above. Do tell.

You said "No one is commenting that people are racist just because they object to Jay Z being the headliner".

Ok how about this comment on the first page....

"This whole Anti Jay-Z smacks of racism."

Does it need to be clearer for you?

First of all, dial it down Squirrel...LOL

That comment was in reference to the Glastonbury article (more of a statement on what Liam said, and not the criticism that some UK fans have professed...)...So no, it doesn't need to be any clearer for me...But maybe it does for you...LOL

Jay-Z Addresses European Controversy

5/13/2008

Maintaining his composure and addressing the recent comments bashing his presence at the upcoming Glastonbury festival, Jay-Z justified being the headliner of the typically rock-based event.

Responding to criticism from Oasis' Noel Gallagher, including his comment of Hip Hop as “not suitable” for the festival, Jay-Z acknowledged the difference in music genres but felt Hip Hop has earned it’s spot.

“We don’t play guitars, Noel, but Hip Hop has put in its work like any other form of music. This headline show is just a natural progression. Rap music is still evolving,” the Brooklyn entrepreneur told The Sun.

Continuing his justification for being named as a headliner, Jay placed himself in the growth of Hip Hop, pointing out significant artists whom have had a large impact upon the genre.
“From Afrika Bambaataa [playing] in the Bronx and Run DMC going platinum, to Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince winning the first rap Grammy, I’m just next in line,” he added.
Rather than throwing any negative comments towards Gallagher or placing Hip Hop over his genre, Jay admitted the best solution is to appreciate one another’s music.
“We have to respect each other’s genre of music and move forward,” he said.
Despite the amount of attention the controversy has created, Jay continued to show off his entrepreneur and marketing mastery as he admitted the amount excitement it has created for himself.

“I’ve never ever had a show that’s caused this much of a stir—I’m really looking forward to it,” he concluded.

thumbs up! More or less,Jay-Z adequately addressed the matter well by simply stating that he is opening a new chapter in the festival and paving the way for upcoming rappers.

I think Jay Z is a boring rapper, but he has always come across as a very cool guy.
