How could there be any comparison. R kelly has been remixing the same track with different lyrics for the past 10 years. I like his music and own more than a few of his cd's, but lets be real- most of his songs are the same formula.

The only song that I will praise R. Kelly for producing and writing is this one:

I'm comparing what r kelly and what Prince have done as producers

Producing for various artists through the years

Songs R's wrote for Toni Braxton, Michael Jackson, Changing Faces, and even Celine Dion are just an interchangeable as R's earlier hits.

And if we're talking about hits, then R does have an advantage over Prince in that regardless. But if we're talking about being groundbreaking, Prince's work with The Time & Shelia E. are the best classics.

The last time R ever had an uptempo track was then he was the leader of Public Announcement for their debut hit She Got The Vibe. It was great to hear R's version of Teddy Riley's New Jack Swing sound.

R needs to bring THIS dance tempo back once in a while.

I never did like New Jack. The whole time it was going on, I was into house music. Mainstream R&B was off my dial by then. I was flipping over to white stations, of all things, who were jamming stuff like Black Box, Cee Cee Penniston, Crystal Waters, etc. while the R&B stations were playing lots of slow dull stuff inbetween new jack swing music. I thought the world had come to an end. White stations were jamming harder than black stations. That was a first. lol

My thoughts exactly, he got the formula right with "You Are Not Alone" then everything after that was predictable. I believe I can fly, Gotham City, I wish all the same song with the same choir at the end with different lyrics. Talk about a lack of originality.

Formula? How about the same presets on a Korg workstation.

And that choir stuff had already been previously done in the 1980s with the rock group Foreigner so it wasn't even original the first time R. Kelly did it.

I was gonna ask that question...

I'd say yes, R.Kelly IS a better producer than Prince when he's producing other people. Why? Because Prince tries to make everyone he produces sound like HIM. Kells at least kinda lets them stretch out and breathe a little more. Not saying I really dig his output that much, but as an artist, I'd much rather work with him than Prince. At least I'd know I'd stand a chance of sounding somewhat like myself. lol

I believe that P is atrociously overrated as a producer... Many folks think that because P is great artist, automatically he's a great producer as well, I don't think so...

And to be honest with you, most of the stuff he made for other artists are garbage...

The Time is the only serious act from the Prince camp, but the Time were great on their own... It's not like if they depended on Prince to make good music...

Prince has never managed to be successful working with old school artists (Larry Graham? Mavis Staple ? Miles Davis? EWF ? etc)

R Kelly as much as I don't like him has been a FAR better and successful producer...
Not only he produced BIG hits for BIG artists, but he also produced Big hits for his protégés and also resurrected old school acts like The Isley Brothers (Doyou believe that ?)

R Kelly made it all as a producer...

Man I was loving New Jack and House at that time. I loved all those people you named and Guy and Keith Sweat and stuff like that. I was a kid then but the radio was always on and I was jammin to everything on it. I wish the radio was still like it was back in 1991. music

Now that's true. Those artists sounded much better before Prince worked with them, than after. They already had a somewhat sound of their own and Prince made their music sound like his, and it wasn't even his strongest work.

Groups like those sound better working with whoever gave them their sound to begin with and sticking to it. However, working with Prince as a producer means that the only people that are going to buy their new music is Prince fans and when it comes to working with another producer, that means ending up with one that makes them sound shit hoppish or they won't get any airplay. It's better that they just stay retired and tour rather than ruin their good names making a bunch of bullshit.

At the same time making The Isley Brothers a laughing stock and a damn disgrace to their old fans. I went to an Isley Brothers concert a few years ago and when they performed the new Mr. Big shit, that's when everyone except for a very few people in their 20s, went to the restroom and pissed out their beer and also went to the bar to get another drink. When I got to the bar, there was a line from hell. When The Isley Brothers got back into their old stuff, there was no line at the bar. I know, because a lush like me made several trips to the bar. lol
