I remember this song.It was written by Michael Jackson.The full title is "Behind The Mask (Who Do You Love)".Recorded by Greg Philliganes and released as a single in 1985.Never knew that Eric Clapton covered it.

The song was written by the leader of the Yellow Magic Orcashstra. They had a song in the late 80's called, "Computer Games". As the story goes, Michael first her "Behind the Mask" and wanted to redo it with lyrics, (the original was an instrumental). Michael and Greg put words to it and Greg sang it. Later on it was covered by Eric on one of his CD's.

I don't know nothing about "Behind the Mask" being a Thriller-Outtake...but judging by it's sound it just as may well be...I can perfectly imagine MJs vocals on this nice uptempo track!

I like Eric's version alot, it's quite funky...as is the complete August album...

Even though, there may be one fact which might prevent the typical .org-crowd from rushing straight to the next wreckastow and get this nice record...

First: It was produced by Phil Collins..which might explain Eric's quite poppy sound on this album, you could partly mistake it for one of Genesis's mid-eighties albums...but I love those too...so what
But that's not essentialy a bad thing, there's great stuff on it, for example a rocking duet with Tina Turner called "Tearing us apart"...

The second fact might just redeem the first one: Phil also plays the drums on the album, and his parts are top-notch...he was also part of Eric's band during this time together with Nathan East and Greg Philinganes...I'd recommend getting the "LIVE IN MONTREUX 1987" DVD..there's a whole show with this formation on there...and it rocks kinda hard!

Many people crush Eric Clapton for some of his eighties output, similar to David Bowie...but his eighties music was what primarily got me into his earlier work with Cream and his solo-stuff...

And I'm gonna see EC in Wiesbaden later this year for my fourth time...can't wait!!
