I kept getting Grand Slam and Inside You mixed up, because they were released literally months apart from each other, in 1981...."Grand Slam" was released earlier in the year, and "Inside You" was out before Fall, ---I was like, "WTF, didn't their album just come out?", !!! Can you imagine something like that these days, when people regularly take 3-5 years between albums..... Inside You put emphasis on ballads with swirling strings, and probably didn't sell as well as their other albums, though I love the track, "Don't Hold Back Your Love"..... ... I agree with most of the fellas in this thread... get a whole bunch of their 70's and enjoy
Start with 'Brother, Brother, Brother', though, not '3+3', and then work your way up chronologically [Edited 4/16/08 8:12am] It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

Excellent album! Actually Givin It Back('71), Brother Brother Brother('72), and their Great 1973 Live album are All smokin', IMO.....even though I'd start with some of the others, I think these are musts too, especially for that Raw Funk/ Soul/Rock/Folk thang they had at the time.... ... If you want to get a more detailed and comprehensive overview of the Isley's musical evolution, you should definitely pick up It's Your Thing: The Story of The Isley Brothers. It's a three-disc box set that covers nearly their whole career in one big sweep. Even though it misses some key tracks, it does hit many high points more than any other compilation. Here's the tracklisting: 1.Building Up To Shout (Live at Yankee Stadium) 2.Shout (Parts 1 & 2) 3.Buffalo Bills - Shout (Part 1& 2) (Live) 4.Twist & Shout 5.Who's That Lady 6.Time After Time 7.Move Over And Let Me Dance 8.Testify (Parts 1 & 2) 9.This Old Heart Of Mine (Is Weak For You) 10.Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me A Little While) 11.It's Your Thing 12.I Turned You On 13.Get Into Something 14.Freedom 15.Keep On Doin' 16.The Blacker The Berrie (AKA Black Berries) 17.Rockin' McDonald 18.Don't Be Jealous 19.Angels Cried 20.It's Your Thing (Live at Yankee Stadium) 21.That Lady (Parts 1 & 2) 22.Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight 23.For The Love Of You (Parts 1 & 2) 24.Brother, Brother 25.Work To Do 26.Lay Away 27.Cold Bologna 28.Midnight Sky (Part 1 & 2) 29.Hello It's Me 30.Make Me Say It Again Girl (Parts 1 & 2) 31.Summer Breeze 32.Live It Up (Part 1 & 2) 33.Fight The Power (Parts 1 & 2) 34.Fire And Rain 35.Love The One You're With 36.Harvest For The World (Prelude) 37.Harvest For The World 38.Groove With You 39.For The Love Of You (Parts 1 & 2) 40.Mission To Please You 41.Between The Sheets 42.Caravan Of Love 43.I'm So Proud 44.Smooth Sailin' Tonight 45.Voyage To Atlantis 46.Take Me To The Next Phase (Parts 1 & 2) 47.The Pride (Parts 1 & 2) 48.(At Your Best) You Are Love 49.Footsteps In The Dark (Parts 1 & 2) 50.Don't Say Goodnight (It's Time For Love) Oh and Amazon.com has it priced at $24.97! It's a great buy... Check me out and add me on:

Definitely a great compilation, especially if you want to geta good overview of their early history, '58-'69...but be aware: some of the 70's and 80's cuts on here, particularly "Voyage To Atlantis", "Groove With You", and "Don't Say Goodnight (It's Time For Love)" aren't the original hits but rather versions cut live in the studio. That's really Kool if you already have these, but if you're looking for the original hits, grab the original CDs or at least another compilation for those.... ... Excellent album! That's why I said this: Pick any album from 1972-1978.
Brother, Brother, Brother is fantastic. "Brother, Brother," "Work to Do," "Pop That Thing," "Lay Away," "It's Too Late," "Love Put Me on the Corner"... "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Then you need to get to the wrecka sto' quick! Life without cuts like "What It Comes Down To" and "Coolin' Me Out" isn't worth living. The singles are just part of the story. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Their albums were about 38 minutes long too. And? Most of the time, it was 38 minutes of pure bliss. I'd much rather have a 38 minute album with killer tracks than a 70-80 minute album with half the tracks being shitty filler, as is the case with most of todays albums. Well we're talking about the albums like Chic released within 12 months of each other which certainly DID have filler. Especially if you combined both albums, 38 + 38 = 74 minutes, I'm sure you would find some skipworthy material damn fast.
