a-Ha members all to release Solo efforts on May 19th and play shows together...but seperate

Nothing like it has ever been done, nor would any band be that interesting where you would need the members to all cut solo records and play as their own selves. But on May 19th a-Ha members, Morten Harket, Magne Furuholmen, and Paul Waakater-Savoy will release their latest solo efforts, the ladder being with his side band "Savoy".

Mortens record has been in the works since 2006 and is called "Egyptian Letters" and is his fourth solo effort to date.
Magnes record was partially available on his Myspace site for free, now more tracks added, its title "A dot of Black in the Blue of your Bliss", the title track being the best song of 2008 so far, this being his third solo effort.
For Paul this is a best of re-recorded album for his band Savoy which is a trio also, and his wife a main vocalist, this is their fifth record together.

a-Ha will do the un-heard of thing and play together, SOLO, so far 5 shows have been sold out in Norway and at Royal albert Hall all being the week of the release of the records.

This side work will take a-Ha up till their 9th studio album due for release in the fall, to celebrate the bands 26th year together.

that's a great idea. Props to them.

I download their discography on the torrents and I'm surprised with the quality of their music

Their work since 2000 when they reformed after a 4 year split is perhaps the best of any band...ever. The fact that they have NO distribution in the USA shows the lameness of this country in a nut-shell.

I remember when they made their comeback with Summer moved on. The radio here in Portugal played that single like crazy. I think it's my favorite a-ha tune.

It was huge for them in Germany, which also has become a HUGE base for them, and then with the "Analogue" record and single they got their UK base back with a Top 10 hit their first in the UK since 1990 when their 13 straight streak ended.

Europe usually embraces quality pop/rock acts with passion.

For example Anastacia and Scissor Sisters. They are massive here, but in the US they are flops. On the other hand, a rapper with a myspace tune can go number 1

The funny thing is when i see a-Ha on these vh1 One-hit wonder specials, and it makes me laugh, because these shows spin it like the artist disappeared or something, or had nothing to offer, when in reality it was the country that gave up, I mean a-Ha bring in crowds that only QUEEN could match.

I'm a big a-ha fan, but I prefer their older stuff.

Too me they are three different bands, their out put from 1984-1989, and then from 1990-1994 and then from 2000 to today. I compare stage one to the Beatles pre 1965, very poppy and catchy, for a-Ha it was all synths, than with the 90's they threw away the snths and debated where to go, so they totally stripped down but almost tried to "rock" which is not really their bag, so their 1993 record "Memorial Beach" was a confusing record and seemed like an end. But 2000 for me was when they became a mature band that was not resting on past success, but also not downplaying the past, they embraced it by saying, "we did good stuff and we did shit stuff" and now lets move forward. The key to this band is Magne Furuholmen, he is the Keyboard/piano player does alot of the writing now, and has grown into one of the best lyricists in music.

Magne is the hotest one imo!
