Honestly between Celine Dion and Mariah Carey i dont know who is better at SUCKING THE LIFE out of the songs they cover. Mariah destroyed classics like "beautiful ones" "without you" and "open arms" while Celine has destroyed "alone" and "power of love" and that other Jim steinman song she did, i forget the title. But this just further proves that having good vocals dont mean you can sing a song well.

I disagree with "Power Of Love". It's the one Celine song I really love (or even like). The original does little for me. I think I heard a bit of this cover of "Alone". Hard to mess with the original, even if it was during Heart's guilty pleasure period.

Its not so much the original of "power of love" but the versions back in 1984 and 1985 by Air Supply and then by Laura Branigan had "life" Celine's and even the original just seem very flat. As for "Alone" this came during HEART's 80's semi-sellout period where they almost werent a factor in writing, but still Ann Wilson OWNS this song, her almost accapella version with just her sister on Acoustic shows how underrated Ann Wilson is as a vocalist and how OVERRATED others are.

I wouldn't say she sucked the life out of that Jim Steinman song. I think that version actually has a little more "oomph" than the original. And yes, I have the album that the original is from. I'm a fan of Steinman.

I always assumed the original was from Laura Branigan. I love her but when I heard her version for the first time recently, it did little for me.

Ann works out on "Alone"....Almost as if she was frustrated by not getting to sing lead on "These Dreams" (which I like a lot less...too glossy) and not being able to write as much. She kills on it. I'm trying to remember if I ever heard Ann do "Alone" acoustic.

Here's a great version of Ann doing Alone in concert.

I have this on dvd and they do an amazing cover of Elton John's Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters. Nancy sings lead on this one.

i don´t know what you´re talking about. I love their versions.

Just heard Celine's version. She's not terrible but how soulless in comparison to the original! It might be a hit for her kind of the same way that cover of "I Drove All Night" was.

Their just soul-less versions, from the poor arrangements of the music to the poor vocal arrangements that drain the life out of the songs, and im a mariah fan from day one, but she was way off on these covers, big time. as for Celine, no comment.

I agree.I like Mariah,I really do,but I think she is LOUSY at re-making songs. She should just stick to original songs that she writes. Her remakes are tedious, with no emotion at all.Compare the original Brenda K.Starr song "I Still Believe" to the lame 1998 Mariah Carey version.

I've loved this song for years, and celine has ruined it for me, no matter what a strong voice she has! She is NOT Ann Wilson!!!

Celine's version is soulless because:

she is an robot literally, the real ugly duckling Celine was replaced in early 90's by a much more energetic and pleasant looking robot who continues to place the emphasis on the wrong words in speech and song.

Ann's version is untouchable, however I did see Carrie Underwood sing it live at a Heart honor thing and she nailed the >>>>>A....LONE part.... perfect note. Ann actually has trouble singing the songs these days.... but remember she is imo the best rock female vocalist period. Her Straight On performance tops just about any other song female performance ever.

Nancy also imo has a wonderful voice that perfectly compliments her sister's.

Can't Celine find a shitty Diane Warren outtake to record instead of a gem nugget.
