I'm surprised so many people hate her whole cd. I love most of the songs - there are only 3 that I don't listen to. I think its better than WorldWideUnderground. Try programming the cd in the reverse order & skipping tracks 3, 4 & 7 and see if that helps.

new cd does nothing for me. I like honey and can tolerate maybe 2 songs off of it but the rest is not that good. Everyone here who seems to like the cd think the rest of us hate erykah. I like some of her songs although her voice can be annoying sometimes but i certainly can dig her style more so than mary j. blige. i love the entire cd and i think honey is the worst track off the album. i love her singing style and i think of her as as Banshee, a messenger from the Otherworld

It is so rare in today's corporatized music culture for an artist on a major label to really follow her muse and put out a thought-provoking and challenging album. This is a time when we could be pushing ourselves to be more socially aware than ever, but instead people prefer escapism and comfort of the same old, same old. IMO they can keep their Justin Timberlake. I am not saying Badu's CD is perfect, but I would rather hear someone put out something that is really individualistic and their own thing, rather than to please the mainstream R&B or pop radio-- there is ENOUGH of that stuff out there, so if someone has the creativity and the guts to go beyond that, I am all for it.

After a month and a half of listening, I can understand some people's issue with her wandering during some moments of the album and think the production could have been crisper and tighter and really the only song I 'm not feeling is My people. But I am still vibing on this album hardcore and it spawned my signature and signifies the next phase of my path 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I would say its more along the lines of Chaka Khan, not that she sounds like Chaka, just their style is closer to being comparable to each others.

You had me until you advocated skipping "Me" and "My People." I like Me until about the last minute & a half. I can't listen it - imo its a good song with some boring ass ending tacked on. I listen to music while I work & I can't get up & hit FF to skip a skit/monologue/chant. I can't remember what I didn't like about My People - does it have a lot of rapping? I'll have to give that one few more listens. What you don't like Twinkle??

I can't disagree with u, but the cd has 2 sound like like something WORTH listening 2. This project does NOT. I'm still undecided about this cd. But even if it's a miss, I'd still prefer it to a by the numbers hit album. I like that she took a chance, and that someone took a chance and let a crazy album like this hit Target stores all over America My Legacy

I finally listened today... I'm cool w/ all of it EXCEPT the song w/ just her voice & the trumpet, I wanted to smash in my entire dashboard when that shit lasted for more than 15 seconds
There's another one where the skit is just way too long, I think it's the opener. I like the music on that though, & the background singers. But I get tired of the Bob George voice... The Healer ain't all that to me (too calm, like I need to be in the tub when it's on), but I really think I like all the rest. This was just the first listen, I'll keep spinning it & get a clearer picture. Don't know why so many people hate it, it seems almost on par w/ Worldwide Underground (inferior, but of a similar mindset if that makes any sense)... She may never do another Mama's Gun (her BEST), but I'm hopeful. I'll be buying part 2, no question...

what you like about that song is the fact that its DIRECTLY lifted from the song "American Promise" by a group called RAMP...
Including the vocals...Basically she took the whole song and talked over it..and sang along..and added the voice that you call the "Bob George" voice...If you want to hear ONLY the parts of that song that you dig..go find the BRILLIANT RAMP album ! dumb lyrics It isn't the greatest song ever, but I think it's quite clever. She sets up the chorus well with "every time we go somewhere, you gotta call Jim, James, Paul, and Tyrone." And the last time is just hilarious to me. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
