No one said it did. It was still a valid question. Both artists could be described as having an "annoying, whiny vocal style." I happen to like both FWIW.

New Amerikah is now my favorite Erykah album, but I still think "Bag Lady" is the best thing she's ever done.

One person singing in a certain "TRADEMARK" style in 1930s-1940s
Is Similar to a hip hop influenced faux Afrocentric girl today who's claim to fame is "doing a great impression of the original persons TRADEMARK style ?!?!

Erykah's claim to fame isn't doing an impression of Billie at all. rolleyes

I mean, really. That may be the only album i've ever bought without liking a single track, and i DO include "Discipline". But that's just my opinion, bringing da heat. flipped off

I don't even buy her records, but I've seen her twice and her live shows are pretty tight.

I got a similar problem with MeShell. I copped all her records and find them dreadfully dull, but I like her live band a lot.

I really liked Erykah's live cd and I've seen her perform live too, but this new cd isn't doing much for me. There are a few decent songs and the vibe is good, but her lyrics are whack and don't interest me in the least.

IMO - she should stick to writing cool, funky songs instead of trying to convey a serious spiritual message like she does with this new cd.

Having said that, her new cd isn't as bad as some of the newer shit out there now, but she's trippin with her message.

Hey guys...chill out..I wasn't really replying 2 anything that anyone in particular said..I was just saying...
Billie Holiday is on another MUCH HIGHER level than Erykah Badu ever will be on..
Like
Jimi Hendrix is on a much higher level than Lenny Kravitz will ever be on..
I still own and listen to all of their records... cool

By the way...whomever thinks Erykah was not "Selling" herself as the girl that sung like Billie Holiday over hip hop grooves when she came out with her first single..You obviously were not too in the loop about what what happening at the time in Black Music..Or how she carved a little place for herself amongst all the other black female singers at the time. wink

Everyone has different taste. I like worldwide underground a lot but this
new cd does nothing for me. I like honey and can tolerate maybe 2
songs off of it but the rest is not that good. Everyone here who seems to like
the cd think the rest of us hate erykah. I like some of her songs although
her voice can be annoying sometimes but i certainly can dig her style more
so than mary j. blige.
