Does anybody on here enjoy this album. I actually lost my copy, but I'm hoping to get it back...ghetto girl is my favorite song on the album

Eric's best album is 'True 2 Myself'...

Vocally and musically his best.

Roger Troutman produced a couple of cuts, including a remake of Sly Stone's "If U Want Me 2 Stay".

If U don't have it, get it.

It's OK, but "True To Myself" blows it away. Better songs and grooves.

I haven't heard "True To Myself" but "A Day in the Life" is damn tight. I've found it to be optimal mood music whilst one tries to de-panty an enchanting swoon unit wink .

I enjoyed all 3 album but True to Myself is his best. He should do a funk album, I'm sure he could pull it off.

I was disappointed after hearing this album. I'd heard rumors about record company compromises and it sounded precisely that way. Since then, I've softened my stance somewhat on it. I do very much like 'Love Of My Own', 'That's Just My Way', 'Come As You Are', 'Spend My Life With You' and 'When You Think Of Me'.

I haven't heard the whole album but i like the joint with roy ayers
and the hot buttered soul remix of spend my life with the lovely
vivacious terry dexter.(Thank you jesus, Thank you jesus) lol
I wasn't really feeling georgy porgy too much.
I liked the singles from his debut album too especially femininity.
I have to check out the whole album.
Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

For some reason I want to punch that dude in the face.

He reminds me of ODB. I think he's soapphobic, but he can sing I guess.

Benet's best album IMHO is Hurricane. In terms of his song writing and maturity it's not even a debate. I have always said give that album to Celine Dion and it would have gone Diamond. Some of he's bootleg stuff..spanish fly, better, can i just call you..would have probably been a better follow up to his second effort. People were just not ready for Hurricane

Reason: Sistas weren't feelin' him because he just got through dogging out...

Well even before the Halle fiasco, he wasn't exactly all that popular sales wise. Actually, his union with her brought him notoriety.

hmmm Well, the Femininity cut is smooth. It has a Stevie Wonder jazzy feel on it.

Well I never did like the guy -- pre-Halle, during Halle, post-Halle. Something about him just gives me the heebie-jeebies.

I remember back in 2000, I was driving from L.A. to Dallas with my buddy and he put on ADITL, to which I had never heard before. As I listened to EB, it kinda dawned on me - "This muthafucka's a player" - and my buddy cracked up laughing, asking me why and I just said "He thinks he's fooling the broads with his 'earthy-bo-ho-no-shoes-or-socks-on-his-feet' vibe but this dude's just runnin' game on them and they have no idea." LOL! Turns out, I was right. lol

nod Agreed. This was probably the case with his groupies or fans, they thought his earthy hopeless romantic stage persona/mack vibe was genuine and unique. But to a sista who isn't one his fans, the flow is meek.
Halle caught the bait but, she woke up out of the dream. Don't mean to step on toes but, I have call a spade a spade point blank. This just proves that one need to take the time to see beyond the outside posterior and minimize media involvement in relationships.

It's okay not to be a fan of Eric, but I am one; was before Halle and after Halle. I'm not misled by what's referred to as his "romantic stage persona/mack vibe." Not to bust myself out,but he's not really in my age group. I have met him, however, several times and found him quite genuine and real, much like someone I could be friends with. I also admire the relationship he has with his daughter, India. I think that too many people have made decisions about Eric Benet based on the relationship he had with Halle.
AND, I like his music as well, have all of his CDs and am waiting for the new one which should be out soon. Incidentally, to the person who mentioned "Spanish Fly," it's my understanding that it is to be on the upcoming CD.
