RIHANNA'S TAKE A BOW - Will become the smash song of 2008! This song is going to be massive. I love it!

Why not. Without evening hearing the song, it has been the case with everyone one of her opening singles. Her songs are catchy and well produced, she has a voice that is great for R&B/pop, she is beautiful and marketed excellently.
What I found crazy is that the industries head exploded so much over "Umbrella" as if Rhianna wasn't having big hits before. It's a good pop song, but chill out people. Does anyone even hear it anymore. I think something like "SOS" is probably more likely to be the song that keeps getting played through the years.

I haven't heard "SOS" since it came out. I still hear "Umbrella" everywhere. Just last month it was covered by indie giants The Manic Street Preachers. It's also been sung by Indie Arie. I haven't heard anyone cover "SOS". “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

Not responding to anyone, I can't believe people are still buying the hype of "Umbrella". I guess if something that is slightly better than your average pop song comes along, it's a classic now of days. A part of me almost wants to believe that Def Jam somehow paid for all this positive press and possibly this uprise of covers. I don't believe that....but it would almost make more sense.

Well yeah since it uses a prominent sample of -- "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell which was a big hit in 1981 or so and still gets it's fair share of radio air play now on stations that play 80's hits. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Umbrella" is much more than "slightly better than your average pop song"; it's excellent. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

rihanna is one of the very few artist that i can enjoy like anything she puts out... and i would say she is more water-down hip-hop.. really pop... if you ask me...
I can tolerate the hip-hop influences in her songs...

I actually only like "don't stop the music" and that "we ride" tune.
I hate everything else she has done, "umbrella" was arite.

I don't really get the love for this Take a Bow song. Nowhere near as good as the already-released singles.

This is a rote ballad, the sonic equivalent of oatmeal, and the first Rihanna single I haven't liked in some time.
Instead of this useless rerelease cash grab, they should have gone with Breakin' Dishes as the next single, which is what they were apparently planning until a month ago.

"Umbrella" is much more than "slightly better than your average pop song"; it's excellent. I just think it's criminally overrated (it's good....but Dylan and the Beatles didn't get this reaction for their music) and maybe that's just because there is such a lack of good pop out there (and Madonna making records with Justin for an easy hit ain't helping matters). Also, there is just a general Reality TV haze that is ruining the entertainment industry as a creative place and making everyone philestines (at least places that report on entertainment). The covers thing reminds me of when people kept covering "Crazy" a year or two before "Umbrella"...almost an exact copy of the same thing. Only "Crazy" is a better track, IMHO. Yes, it heavily depends on a sample but it's lyrics are amazing. Just my opinion. And to the insanely confrontational poster (not you, AlexdeParis, of course), you knew I was making a joke. Maybe someone who is so damn humorless and credits René Elizondo being the pop songwriter of the century wouldn't have gotten that. People are so damn angry about pop music....This is supposed to be a fun place. Lighten up.

Yeah i have never understood the Drop dead attitude to UMBRELLA, calling it the classic of the decade, i mean are you kidding me? Its a catchy pop song, but be real, longevity, it will not have, longevity just is not a factor any more in this business, you will not see too many artists in this decade rolling over into the next, and you will not see their music having a lasting value into that decade, the mainstream is just not set up that way. People tend to forget that the likes of Marvin Gaye and James Brown and Bob Dylan and others were the mainstream, and the reason their songs stuck was because, one they were relevant to the time and had universal appeal, but also spoke to all ages and people. The business of music is not set up to have longevity anymore, and neither are the songs "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

You don't seem to understand that "Umbrella" is just an excellent song, and that's why people are covering it. There is no conspiracy. The Manic Street Preachers would not cover a song for any other reason than that they like it. I am someone who can't stand anything else Rihanna ever did. I remember clicking on a link to hear "Umbrella" for the first time and expecting some crap, and being totally surprised. It was great. When it went on to become an international smash I wasn't surprised at all. It appeals to people from all demographics. Even someone like me, who otherwise can't stand Rihanna, can hear how good that song is. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

The lyrics are juvenile and insipid. Her singing ability is mediocre at best, Yep! Got hit written all over it!
