RATM Re-united: Verdict

Anyone seen Rage post-regrouping?

I'm gonna see them at Reading this year, so was wondering if anyone knew what to expect?

I'm pretty fucking stoked; didn't get into the band until after they split and was pissed I didn't get to see them live...well I guess now I will. biggrin

Nope! Unfortunately not! Saw them in '94, '96 and '00... they kicked ass... especially in '94... hopefully I will get to see them on their reunion thing... unfortunately they don't do any concerts near me! They only do a festival and I don't really want to go to that, besides it's on a weekend where I'm going to another concert... I will have to see what I'll do about that!

Reunited RATM is way cool, but they've been doing big events like Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza Coachella, so I just copped some live feeds.
Ya migh wanna keep your eye open for guiartist Tom Morello.

He's going around as The Nightwatchman. It's folkie protest music, but real aggressive shit. Not for the timid. eek

He's also teamed up with Serj (system of a down) to form Axis of Justice.
A happy face, A Thumpin Bass, For A Lovin' Race. PEACE.

Didn't see em myself but reports were very good last year - sounds like if you liked em before, you'll like em now.

They are AMAZING live and one of the few bands that I get more and more angry as the show progresses.

saw it on tv, was pretty dull.....not my thing. Also the message he wants to spread is very American, not very effective outside of the US. I just want another Bombtrack!!!

i might watch RATM from afar when they're at lollapalooza this summer. i like a few songs from their first album, but not enough to brave all the knuckleheads in the audience who will be bashing the shit out of everyone while the band sings about peace and tolerance. lol

Yeah, the Morello crowds are smaller, but still a bit manic. It's still rock & roll! razz

i've gone to plenty of rock shows. there's a difference between hard rock and jock rock. let's face it - RATM has a tendency to attract the backwards baseball cap crowd. nothing against the band, it's just how it is. shrug

nod this is true, but RATM's motto ('finger, I won't do what you tell me!') is already 16 years old, I wonder how many of the backwards baselball cap crowd are still left.....and how RATM will appeal to the new young crowd...
Personally, I can not stand Zack de la Rocha's political rants, I do like the energy of the band....

The revolutionaries may change but the revolution will never die until there are some fundamental changes in this country.

So "backwards baseball cap crowd" are actually the people who understand the message. Those people seem to be the last of the intelligent ones who understand what Zach is writing about and actually give a shit.

By doing nothing you've made a choice to do something.

"finger I won't do what you tell me" transcends time, age and gender.

PFunkjazz, let me know how the show goes and what unified message they deliver. I'm sure it'll be about the occupation of a foreign country/countries.

rage against the machine are shit, they say fuck the corporations, but wasn't their label company one! hypocrites... there are alot of bands with the same message, they stay to their words, and stay in indie labels, etc do some research for those real good political bands, try the band, CRASS

Interesting. Morello, Harper, Slash and Obama are all bi-racial. I know Ben came out for an Obama fundraiser. Expect Morello to be "in pocket" too. Should be something going on after the Dems nomination mess gets resolved.

Well who's to say that because they reached the mass audience they did that would even had happened with an indy. As far as hypocrites, before you start pointing fingers, check in with reality first, we're all hypocrites on some level. This band wouldn't have gotten air play and touched as many people (including the original poster) without proper distribution.

you're exactly correct. with a name like "rage against the machine", album titles like "evil empire" and record covers like the burning suicide protest monk on their debut album, you can tell the LAST thing they want to be labelled as is "political".

i am not discussing about my life or about humanity. i am just saying, if your going to do something political, stay to what your agenda is. zach de la rocha, has been pointed out by this before. when he answers the question, he has the damn audacity to compare his music with Chomsky's literature.

When you live in a capitalistic society, the currency of the dissemination of information goes through capitalistic channels. Would Noam Chomsky object to his works being sold at Barnes & Noble?
-Zach De La Rocha

There are plenty of political bands that work in indie rock labels, they are hypocrites, because they say we live in a capitalistic world and fuck capitalism, when were run by a capitalistic org.
