Their trailer-park aura is confusin' you. Nowadays their music is as tired as Chicago and EWF, but it makes county fairs more fun. test

Mike definitely solidified them with smooth r&b smellies, but they was always onto the stuff. WHAT WERE ONCE VICES... had a sweet taste of Louisiana boogie with "Black Water" and STAMPEDE had "Take Me in Your Arms" and off THE CAPTAIN & ME "China Grove" and "Long Train" had a potent beat that moved them over to many r&b collections. Even from the begining, TOULOUSE STREET birthed "Jesus Is Just Alright" and "Listen to the Music" which became a big Isleys throwdown on 3+3. I'd like to hear some funky Dixieland Pretty mama, come and take me by the hand Blackwater - Patrick Simmons '73 Then I was down south and I heard some funk with some main ingredients Like Doobie Brothers, Blue Magic, David Bowie. It was cool, But can you imagine Doobiein' your funk? Ho! P. Funk (Wants To Get Funked Up) - {G Clinton, W Collins, B Worrell} '75 test

But never rednecks, country bumpkins, or hayseeds.

That track is OK I guess, but the Doobies stuff that gets me really interested is the whole Minute By Minute album. I recently bought a gold CD remastered version of that album and the sound is really warm, like a really good LP but without the crackle and pops of course. My favourite from that album is "Open Your Eyes": http://youtube.com/watch?v=ansI1NlQ6FY That track is SMOOOOTH.

A few weeks ago,I bought their 1976 album 'Takin' It To The Streets' on CD.I've been enjoying it tremendously I was thinking that it was time for a Doobie Brothers thread.

It's a good song. Minute By Minute is also my favorite from them; "What a Fool Believes" and the title track are perfect. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

They were 2 different bands, PM (prior to McDonald) and AM (after McDonald). My guess -- just my guess -- is that the label needed to find a vehicle for McDonald and the Doobies were the best fit. That being said, I like'em both for different reasons. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016
