David Sylvian and Ryuichi Sakamoto: Avant/Pop/Jazz/Classical , etc...

...

I dig both artists separately, and I also love it when they occasionally collaborate - they end up covering a lot of stylistic ground:

"Forbidden Colours"("Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence")

David Sylvian - vocals
Ryuichi Sakamoto - keyboards, synths, arranger/conductor(orchestra)

"Red Guitar"

David Sylvian - Acoustic Guitar, Synths, vocals
Ryuichi Sakamoto - Piano, Keyboards
Wayne Braithwaite - Fretless Bass
Ronny Drayton - Electric Guitar
Mark Isham - trumpet
Steve Jansen - Drums, Percussion

"The Boy With The Gun"

David Sylvian - acoustic guitars, vocals
Danny Thompson - Double Bass
David Torn - electric guitar, pedal, effects
Ryuichi Sakamoto - Organ, Synths, conductor (strings)
Danny Cummings: Percussion

Bamboo Houses

David Sylvian - keys, vocals
Ryuichi Sakamoto - keys
Steve Jansesn - additional keys

Sakamoto: 1,000 Knives

Ryuichi Sakamoto : Piano
Everton Nelson: Violin
Jaques Morelenbaum: Cello

David Sylvian: Nine Horses recording session

Sakamoto: Dennogiwa

Sakamoto:Keyboards, vocals
Everton Nelson:Violin
Chris Minh Doky: Electric Bass
Kelli Sae: vocals

September

David Sylvian - vocals
Ryuichi Sakamoto - piano, arranger/conductor(strings)

Kudos, paligap. Once again, you exhibit superb taste. I saw this thread several days ago and didn't have the chance to post on it, but I wanted to recognize. Sylvian is an extraordinary artist and I love his work with Sakamoto.

Another Sylvian/Sakamoto gem is 'Taking Islands From Africa' (which I couldn't find a clip for on You Tube) from Sylvian's days in Japan.

Nice thread.

OMG ~ my dream thread. I LOVE you paligap. Although I'll have to wait until I get to work as I only have dial up, but I've seen some of these before. Just brilliant. Have you heard the new installment piece David Sylvian released a few months ago? I have to look it up but it is very interesting. I also just received a beautiful ledger type book and cd ~ David Sylvian/2007 ~ The World Is Everything Tour ~ but haven't had time to properly delve into it. Thank you!!!! He is at the top of my favourite list and when he works with Ryuchi Sakamoto the magic they create is exquisite.
