Urban Hang Suite - Maxwell (Most sensuous/cohesive piece in the genre)
What's the 411 - Mary J. Blige (Ushered in Hip Hop Soul)
Guy - Guy (Ushered in the New Jack Swing)

hmm

neutral

Yo! I HAD to consider the ALL stylings of the genre, dawg! Anything less would be uncivilized. thumbs up!

- Urban Hang Suite speaks for itself. The shit just DRIPS with sensuality - undeniable.

- What's the 411 was the pinnacle of the whole Hip Hop Soul movement. It blended that "pain" of the female soul singers of the 60s with Hip Hop.

- Guy just blew onto the scene with the New Jack Swing and set off a whole new genre of R&B basically.

Stop bein' such a prude, playa! evillol

A list that represents each of the eras over the last 30+ years. As for the comment highlighted above, I'd respectfully mention Let's Get It On as an alternative.

Let's Get It On - 1b wink - Both had the same vibe and I believe some of the same personnel.

Fair enough. "Ascension" alone is worthy of recognition because it proved that great R&B could survive in a post-New Jack/hip-hop-soul era.

One of my favorites. nod

I was going to limit myself to one album per artist, but why?

4. Innervisions - Stevie Wonder
3. What's Going On - Marvin Gaye
2. I Want You - Marvin Gaye
1. Songs in the Key of Life - Stevie Wonder

I tried to mix the old with the new and not to limit myself to one artist otherwise it could have been all Stevie.
