Timbaland, and my distaste

Honestly, I have no love 4 this dude no' more..

His skills were uncomparable during the mid and late 90's.. but now since working w/ nellie furtado, JT, madonna etc...brothaman has sold out to a white POP audience..

Its unfortunate that he disregards the same artists and music that put him on the map

I miss the days the good ol' days when people thought timbaland was still the SHOE

I totally feel you. I used to like Tim when his stuff had MELODY. Aaliyah's One In A Million album really showcased his talent. Now, it's all the same song...just rehashed over and over.

I think he's fine. If nelly, justin, madonna were black, I can't help but wonder whether you would still brand him a sellout.

i dont see the point of him producing for white people making him a sell out.
i never quite liked his style but im sure if he would work with studio mucians to replay his beats/grooves things would improve for the better. + i dont like his attitude

Don’t care for the person but like a lot of his old stuff, especially most of his work with Missy and Aaliyah as well as...
I’m Sorry by Ginuwine
Say My Name remix by Destiny’s Child
and Miss Jade

well he worked with black artists for so many years, the only logical thing to do next is expand his horizons and capitalize on that success, considering that the music he did with blacks appealed to people from all kinds of backgrounds. Even entertainment overseas from Japan and India were making Timbaland sounding tracks in the late 90's and early 00's, and we all know he borrowed samples from Arabic music as well, so why not. He is after all, more successful than someone like rodney jerkins.

Like I said.. its not him working for white artists.. its his expanding in2 POP music. abandoning R&b and his roots. This is not a race issue. Although race plays a factor. My beef is that the urban audience never abandons the people they love.. yet he abandoned them!

Pretty much.

When I listen to Timbaland I'm not approaching it with loaded assumptions of who and what he should represent.

Every artist changes. Most usually fall off when they stop worrying about their success and start "expanding". Timb's not hungry any more so there's no need for him to work hard to make good tracks. I think Aalyiah's death had a devastating effect on his music. What I hear is him holding back a lot. Its like there's a part of him that won't let him make tracks like he used to with Aalyiah.

I take it you hate OneRepublic as well. lol

BTW, I understand exactly how you feel. But this isn't new. Many black music producers like Maurice Starr, Full Force, Lionel Ritchie, and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds had to do the same thing at one point in their careers.

When New Edition left Maurice Starr, he basically did just that when creating New Kids On The Block. And made serious money.

Again, nothing new.

Yeah he almost half hartedly refused to work with Missy, saying he on a 'different level' now. I understand....because his recent successes has been with pop artists. But he has done a little bit of remixes and stuff with rap artists, but not really doing any major production with any r&b artists lately.

His music has definitely changed since Aaliyah's passing. I can't put my finger on it but to me, its lost something. On the flip side, he's got a whole new audience that obviously loves his current style.

He worked with 50 Cent and Keri Hilson recently did he not? Who has he abandoned? And I'm sorry to have to say it this way, but that kind of attitude reminds me of kids telling their black peers they are not down with them because they don't talk using their slang or have all black friends.

missy and timbaland did awesome work together in the 90's, but everyone has to move on at some point, and it sounds to me like timbaland has. I agree aailyah's death has affected him, but he's bounced back well since and at this point, does not want to be stuck in the past.

I don't blame the cat for goin' where the money's at. Gotta make hay while the sun still shines (and, in the producer game, it doesn't shine for long).

I haven't heard the whole album, but I think he did an awesome job with Nelly Furtado.

Why is working with black, non-pop (although I might argue that the music you're referring to is, in fact, "pop") artists somehow better than working with white pop artists?
It's me, Ace! Out of replies for the first time in years!

I know historically whites sang black artists material, maybe it has to do with that.

Some of his cuts with Justin were pretty good. Lovestoned was one of the best if not THE best song on the record from a compositional standpoint. That track with 50 & Justin was garbage and he worked the shit out of Keri on his solo CD and has yet to "pay her back" musically. Keri Hilson is to Timbaland what Jill Jones was to Prince.
The problem is he has no desire to do better. Just like Pharrell, when the public accepted their weakest tracks as gold, then there was no reason to make "gold" tracks. If he works with Michael, MJ will make his ass work. Mike will chuck that shit back at him and go "You ain't bad! "You ain't nothin'!" "hee-heeee"
lol

I see nothing wrong with a producer expanding their horizons and (as someone put it) "going where the money is" lol Who knows how long Timbaland's sound will be "hot"? He's gotta milk this thing for all it's worth. He wants to reach as many listeners as he can.

Doesn't he still work with Missy? I had heard that he was producing some tracks for her new album.

I think Nelly Furtado has depth... maybe that's why Loose was my favorite of Timbaland's more recent works.

Well, to your point about him abandoning the black artist for the dollar bill...Let me asked you this, who is in the music business, just for the love of it? NO ONE! and if anyone says that they are, they are lying. The man has got to eat. Also, I think hip hop and R&B music has been dead for some time, long before Timberland came on the scene. I find some of these collaborations interesting.
