I remember being at a record shop, looking at his Midnight Love album, wishing I can buy it...Money was tight back then. Then while on the bus, on my way home, I heard his music being played alot that day.... So when I got home, my father stated, "You heard what happen to Marvin, right?" I was like, "No, what happen?" He told me and I was floored. More surprise that his father killed him.. [Edited 4/2/08 16:46pm]

That day was so surreal. Seemed like a cruel rumor/joke at first, 'till I turned on the news... My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

I can just imagine how weird the day was. It being April Fools' Day and all. People were probably waiting to beat the shit out of someone for telling them Marvin had died until they go home and fall on the floor in tears after seeing it on the news. Ironically, one of the reasons I'm a fan of Marvin is because he was born on the same month I was born on, died on the same year I was born on, and I came out of my mama's womb about 11 days after his death. Talk about fucking odd. Who else was born in that fateful time in April 1984?

Continue to RIP. My Mother thought the same thing. She said she thought someone was playing a bad joke and didn't believe it when she heard about him passing. I'm sure it was a big shock to many of course. Well anyway, Happy B-day to one of the greatest that ever lived! "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ
"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always

My mother told me how she found out. She was in the car with my older brother( who was about 4 at the time) and my grandmother and they announced it on the radio. She had to pull over because she couldn't stop crying "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I was a sophomore in high school when Marvin Gaye died. There was a rather surreal pall when the news came out, because he performed his incredible version of "Star Spangled Banner" for the NBA All-Star Game only a few weeks earlier. Then it was revealed it was his father who killed him and it became bizarre and tragic.
