Adam Ant - Manners & Physique

Recently there was thread about Andre Cymone and some of the albums he produced and this album was mentioned. I love Adam Ant as well as Andre Cymone so I had to hear what this album sounded like even though it was thrashed by some people. Well I ordered it and I love this cd!! I guess it's basically a dance/pop album but I really like it. "room at the top", "rough stuff" "Manners and physique" and
"Picadilly" are my faves. Ok maybe this is not Adam's best work but I dig it. Anyone else? cool

Man, I hate this album! lol

The songs themselves aren't that bad but the production is so lifeless! Adam's strength has always been his personality, but on this album it's shoved into the back in favor of the plastic beats. You almost can't hear his voice at all, and there's no dynamics to the music, it just plods along like a flat line.

Maybe it would have sounded better in 1985 (the album came out in '89, I think smile )

i guess it does sound dated but at the time that was the sound. i don't know i think the songs are catchy. i don't think it's as bad as most people think.

the songs are okay, like Room at the Top, Can't Set Rules About Love (which he kind of wrote again as Wonderful) and a couple others. But it almost sounds like it could be any cut & paste pop star, which bugs me, as I like Adam's style.

Well, looking back I like Dirk Wears White Sox the best purely for music. It's the most regular music oriented album, but with tons of personality & great songs. But it's a different sound, more rock & roll, less Ant. Maybe it's the fact that Marco isn't there. But I love the songs.

Kings of the Wild Frontier is maybe my personal favorite. It's probably the most creative of his albums, with a much more distinct Ant style. It's the most nostalgic for me, too. I actually like the American version better, with Physical & Press Darlings.

Prince Charming has great stuff, but the image is starting to become more important, IMO. It's a bit more goofy & less cool, but I am pretty fond of it, still.

Friend or Foe is pretty decent, the last one I really liked.

Strip has some nice hooks, but it's pretty light.

Haven't heard Vive Le Rock or Wonderful, but I like the couple tracks I've heard from them, particularly Wonderful. I lost some faith in him after Strip, but got Manners & Physique on a whim (and $2.99!)

wow you really seem to know your stuff. i love the song Strip and in fact that's the song that i really know him from. i think that album is considred pretty weak to many of his fans as well.

Strip is a good song nod

Adam & The Ants was my first "favorite band" (other than the Beatles who broke up before I was born)

They were my first concert at age 8, and the first band I watched evolve. So they're not still my number 1, I still like them and have real sentimental fondness for the sound.

Yeah i agree, its a great half album or at least a really good half album. But its the production, and that Blame goes to Andre Cymone. As for Adam i think his "Wonderful" album was his best, and he seemed to be moving in a great direction, and than the wheels fell off the bus so to speak.
