So many great songs in that list!!! WOW! Some of these songs,I haven't heard since 1981.I got alot of fond memories of this era.And let's not even discuss the R&B songs from this era.I've done a few threads on the Summer of '81....it's unbelievable how many amazing R&B and funk jams we had that summer!

One of her best ballads. Yes, released after 9 to 5. I dunno about unsuccessful. Depends which chart you're looking at - #1 country, #41 pop.

One interesting thing about that chart: Many of those artists were just warming up,so to speak...

***John Cougar ("Ain't Even Done With The Night") was one year away from his huge 'American Fool' success.

***Hall and Oates ("Kiss On My List") were just beginning their 80s chart dominance.

***Quincy Jones ("Ai No Corrida") was a year or so away from producing what would become the biggest selling album of all time.

***Phil Collins,Steve Winwood and Ray Parker Jr. would soon go on to have bigger,chart-topping hits as the decade progressed.

There are a few dull ones on the list but there are also a lot of great songs also. Totally the opposite of today's charts.

Damn, I hate that song and always have. I'll never forget the first time I ever heard Anita Baker. It was her song, "You better watch your step, you'll fall and hurt yourself one day". She sounded just like the lady that sings "Somebody's Knocking". I was scared that our best R&B station at the time, WJMI, had changed it's format to country. Afterwards, when the DJ said the station's call letters, I said "Damn that Whiteny Houston (that's what I called her back then), boring people like this would never be on WJMI if it wasn't for her ass. lol
