DAMITA JO: FOUR YEARS LATER

Four years since it came out, it went so fast. My most played Janet album, still think it was and still is underrated and I don't think she will create something as varied or as springy as this was. This is one of my non-stop albums I can listen to it from start to finish.

Fave tracks:
Island Life
R&B Junkie
Damita Jo
All Nite
My Baby

cool

We love...

Sexhibition
Like You Don't Love Me
Island Life
All Night (Don't Stop)
R&B Junkie
Slolove
My Baby
Spending Time w/ You
tho' I battled blind
love is a fate resigned
memories mar my mind
love it is a fate resigned

Over futile odds
and laughed at by the Gods
and now the final frame
Love is a losing game

Not my favorite in any kinda way but I loved the summer sounds of these three:
Island Life
SloLove
Spending Time With You

Then I throw in:
All Nite
Like You Don't Love Me
M*ist

Hmm, 6 out of 14 tracks. Not bad.
Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

My most played Janet album

Damn good point here. I listen to the classics Control and Rhythm Nation more than Damita Jo but.. otherwise the rest of her albums don't get as much play.

about to give me an attitude
you need to make love to me
like you don't love me again..."
"be who you are and say what you feel
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."

I still don't get why this didn't get the love it should have. Was it lack of promotion? The Nipplegate scandal? Or was it just the critics' opinion? This was a damn good album with great songs. I play this much often and it just sounds better and better.

Moist
Spending Time With You
Damita Jo
Thinking Bout My Ex
Truly
Like U Don't Love Me
My Baby
Island Life
Slolove
R&B Junkie
I Want You

Song for song, Damita Jo is an even more cohesive and focused set of songs than All For You, 20 Y.O., and probably even Discipline was! music

The album has some strong songs, but I don't like it in full, there are some tracks I could live without on it, but from Spending Time With You through Thinkin Bout My Ex is enjoyable, as are Sexhibition, Strawberry Bounce, Moist and Just a Little While though I like the jusblaze mix better

I still haven't bought this album. How does it compare with its predecessors, say, Velvet Rope and after?

I listened again a couple of weeks back and liked it more than I ever had before. It's too long, but it's not bad. I like Discipline better, though.

This album has just gotten better and better since it's release. Honestly, I believe I hated on it just to be part of the bandwagon and a lot of other people are probably admitting to doing the same thing.

After "20 Y.O." and "Discipline"...
* The former being an OK album with some SOLID GOLD songs ("Take Care") and some tolerable songs ("Daybreak", "Love 2 Love") mixed in with some of the worst songs she's EVER done ("Show Me").
* The latter being the only album she's put up that I've truly been disappointed in after the first listen. It just doesn't.come.together like it should. The top cuts are "Feedback", "LUV", "Rock With U", "What's Ur Name" and "Let Me Know". She could have kept everything else.

...I pray for another album as good as "Damita Jo", much less the albums before that (excluding "AFY" hrmph ). I LOVE it woot!

"SloLove"
"Strawberry Bounce"
"R&B Junkie"
"Truly" <--I sense no love for this song
"Sexhibition"
"Spending Time With You"
"Just A Little While"

The only song that I can't stand is: The title track
...extraordinarily opinionated...wink

damn this album has been discussed to death!

i remember in about 2005 lots of folks on here were hating it, saying it was sub par, unworthy, not her best, a mess, a bomb, a piece of S***, now everyone's kissing its ass.

i will never understand love for 'just a little while.'

...who knows if in 2011 people will be on here saying how great "Discipline" was? i think they will. biggrin
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

Actually, I think that album is going to start racking up a lot more *thumbs down* in a couple of months...
