I like the 2 tracks I've heard so far. I'm looking forward to it. "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

Can't wait for this CD. Already seems like a good mix of stuff with Ziggy Marley and a hard club track ("I'm A Fire") and a dance pop radio friendly song ("Stamp Your Feet"...heard the full song but it's low quality in sound so it's hard to judge but the sample is killer and the rest is good as well).

almost 20 years she sounds good. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

almost 20 years she sounds good. Well, she hasn't put out a studio album in 17 years (she did record a Christmas album in 1994, though) but she has released a lot of one offs (or two or three offs), mostly from soundtracks and collections. She also probably recorded at least an albums worth of material ("Angel") in 2000 that never fully saw the light of day (although some tracks came out fully or in part). Here are some of her post "Mistaken Identity" tracks that come to mind. Nearly all of them are co-written by Donna. "Any Way At All" (1994) "Melody of Love" (1994) "Carry On" (1992) 'Ordinary Miracle" (1996? Not available on any recording, sadly...from some Jennifer Beals movie) "Wherever There is Love" (1996 duet with Bruce Roberts) "I Will Go With You" (1999) "Love Is the Healer" (1999) "That's The Way" (2003) "You're So Beautiful" (2003...probably recorded for "Angel" from 2000) "Dreams A Lot Theme (I Will Live For Love)" (2003) "I Got Your Love" (2004, but also from "Angel"...a stand alone single that should have ushered in the release of "Angel") "Power Of One" (2000...Pokemon soundtrack) "Power Of Love" (2005...a cover of the Luther Vandross track for a compilation) "Are You Brave" (2005? From Mr. Rodgers comp "Have A Rosie Christmas" (2000?...from Rosie charity album) There is more. There were a bunch of tracks mostly recorded live for her 1999 "Live and More Encore" that were meant for a musical but they don't come to mind. At least a full album's worth of material. A lot of it is worth looking into. High quality dance pop for the most part. [Edited 4/2/08 14:15pm]

Donna really should have attempted a comeback in the mid-90s.That was a perfect time for her to bounce back with a big album. We were going through the whole 70s revival thing.Suddenly,"disco" was no longer a bad word.Imagine if she had released a kickass dance album in 1995.It would have been huge. Her fanbase (and dance music fans in general) would have ate it up.In fact, around that time, she had a Number One dance hit "Melody Of Love (Wanna Be Loved)".Produced by the C&C Music Factory and featured on her 'Endless Summer' Greatest Hits CD,it went straight to Number One on the dance music charts. It's an excellent song. The success of that single proved that dance fans were eager for new material. They were ready to embrace new Donna Summer music. She should have jumped at the opportunity. At the end of the decade,Cher bounced back with a massive dance hit ("Believe").I remember thinking "this should be Donna's big comeback hit!".I always imagined that Donna could have recorded that song (or a song just like it) and made an amazing comeback. She's certainly a better vocalist than Cher. She would have taken that song to another level.

I think she sort of always did attempt comebacks....I think that's what "Endless Summer" was and if it took off, she would have done an album. The blame probably goes more on Polygram (Mercury...whatever it was at that point) for stringing her alone. I think she probably put waaay too much stock into being signed to a major label that would support her work (she's never gone "indie" until now and Brugandy isn't all that indie). I believe around that time, she was going to make an album (and not just "Christmas Spirit") for Polygram but they (most likely) decided against it and just used her for her hits (and back catalog in general....Remember "I'm A Rainbow" from 1996?). I'm pretty sure the same happened (with the same outfit!) when she went back to them to make "The Journey" with it's few new tracks (and the previously recorded and recently leaked "You're So Beautiful")....guess what? Nope! Thank God she is finally on a label willing to put out a CD, and not mess around with another repackaging of the hits, and do some decent promotion (can't expect miracles at this point....I don't think she wil be on MTV anytime soon).

She's a lot more than just her hits but if you want to get beyond dance music (or some variation of the d word...disco), you really got a dig. Her voice is strong and she could have really went anywhere but it was disco that made her a success. Her very first album as Donna Summer (really her first...I think she appeared on stuff before but did not have a full album) is called "Lady Of the Night". It's hard to describe the sound but it's more like folk pop or pop rock. Not even really R&B and definately not disco.
