Genesis did some really good stuff in the early 80s, unfortunately This ISNT one of them.

I just bought the remastered Phil Collins-era Genesis albums and they sound amazing (the Peter Gabriel era has not been remastered yet).

While all of their albums are good, their early-to-mid work was outstanding, especially the sweeping progressive rock "operas" and concept stuff.

Content aside, these are the best-sounding CDs I own. They really took time and care in remastering them.

It sounds more like the pap Collins would eventually swill out at the massess after Invisible Touch. The only song I liked was Land of Confusion and Tonight Tonight

Yes, Invisible Touch sounds incredible. Best remastering i've heard. But I think Genesis and Abacab are better albums. Their recent live album, Live Over Europe was pretty good too.

in all seriousness tho, if you listen closely to Genesis, you can always here lots of interesting musical parts. Songs like 'Mama' has a pretty killer bass line which wants to funk out all over the place but never does and Duchess is a serious epic.
The only reason that Genesis gets stick is cuz of Phil. he ain't the coolest cat around but he has loads of talent. he's a kick ass drummer, a pretty good singer, definately a great songwriter and as a producer, I think he's one of the best.
Plus the lyrics to a lot of their tracks are really clever and funny.

By exception, the only single by Genesis (or Phil Collins) I care to hear.

Oh yeah? Do you like Phil Collins' remake of Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors"?

No, no, no. I haven't even heard it (and don't want to). lol I like some of the early 80s era Genesis, and that includes this one. I think the whole Invisible Touch album is a good pop album. Not great, but some good singles on it.

At the risk of giving you a heart attack, I don't mind it either. I also kinda like the way he slathered the cheese on "True Colors." Even more, I'm an unabashed fan of "You'll Be in My Heart" -- that shit is perfect! music

Actually I don't know this one. It's his voice I can't stand anyway, even on jammin' tracks like "Sussudio" (spelling?)

lol It's not in the same league as the original, but I enjoy some adult contemporary cheese at times.

You probably know it. It's the theme song to Disney's Tarzan (from 1999). It's probably my second favorite after "A Whole New World."

lol My like for their material doesn't extend past the 80s. That song in particular does nothing for me. He also beat Aimee Mann's Save Me for the best song Oscar that year. fart

Another great, great Genesis song, one of many.

The one I like best at the moment is 'Hold On My Heart'. Magic stuff there.

Phil Collins does a remake of "You Can't Hurry Love".

I feel like a little part of me dies when I hear it. biggrin Actually, I don't think it's quite that bad but not something I ever choose to listen to.
