Not sure. But there are Mastering programs in which you set the parameters on the lo hi and mid ranges that can do it for you. I did a google search (best place to find answers) and typed in programs that remove vocals from a track and came up with this site that discusses the whole process... http://www.ethanwiner.com/novocals.html Excerpt.. I suggest you buy Vogone available http://www.mtu.com/basics...nator.htm. This commercial program is priced fairly, and they just released (July 2006) a new version that performs even better than the manual editing described in this article. Equally valuable is the Thomson Vocal Eliminator, which is a hardware device. You can learn all about this device, and download demo MP3 files, at the LT Sound web site http://ltsound.com/. Hope that helps. Christian Zombie Vampires

If you want free...do a little more digging. I doubt there is one for free as that means anyone can rip apart a commercial song and remix it etc. for free. Christian Zombie Vampires

Phase cancellation is the only technique that might work on such things, not EQ. Basically it can be used to remove (or rather, quieten) the parts that are placed exactly in the middle of a stereo recording, but in the vast majority of cases it either doesn't work or takes out all kinds of other elements in the mix as well. The option is available on many audio editors, but it doesn't usually generate very usable results. There are also applications that usually go by names such as "karaoke vocal eliminator" and so on.
To be honest, it's something that was originally discovered most out of an accident with malfunctioning equipment and in pure audio terms taking out something from a full mix shouldn't even be possible (imagine scrubbing out Mona Lisa herself from the painting and expecting the landscape background that's pictured in the distance to be found from behind her). The phenomenon is there to be experimented with. [Edited 3/28/08 13:44pm]

However most of the time bass drums and snares are totally gone and anything else in the middle mix. You are correct. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Ok,
this is a piece of piss. you don't need to buy any software or any shit, you can do it for free right now, i'll show exactly the method which everybody uses to rip music from Movie scores, which also works with removing vocals. This is the only method you need. Its pot luck basically, if you are lucky, you might get a good end result and have a vocal free song! First of all you need to do this: 1. Download "Audacity", free wave,mp3 etc sound editor. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ 2. download the plugin for audacity called "Center pan remover" from here, and just put it in the audacity plugins folder: http://audacity.sourcefor...emover.zip 3. Now open Audacity, load up your mp3 or wave sound file of song. Select/Highlight the whole song. 4. Now go to "effect" on the audacity menu bar, and then click "center pan remover". 5. leave the settings as normal and click OK. 6. Voila, If you are lucky, most of the Vocals in a song or piece of music will go away. First of all, its pretty much impossible to remove all vocals from a song unless its been specifically recorded in a way that the music can be seperated. Luckilly, many songs vocals are able to be removed. You are usually left with a sort of tinny or quiet sound once the center pan removal is done. Best of all though, this method works a treat a lot of the time on DVD ovies where you want to rip some soundtrack score thats never been released. You simply play the DVD on your PC as normal, hit record in Audacity. Once done, just do center pan removal in audacity and if you are lucky, you will get a sound effect free piece of music!! Now get going and try this on whichever song you want to get the vocals rid of! Let me know how you get on !! [Edited 3/28/08 14:33pm]

Get yourself a program called "soundforge" or the FREE Audacity...http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ You wont be able to REMOVE vocals from the two tracks..but you will be able to take a few bars where its only instrumental..for instance the intros.. and copy and paste those sections to make a loop of the grooves for as long as you want..you can also do the same with the chorus's of the songs since it may be nice to actually have the background vocals on the chorus's..Its not a perfect solution..but, Its what most music makers would do these days to get a track without vocals from a track with vocals.. Good luck !

Soundforge and Audacity both can handle phase cancellation functions (the soundforge one can be found on the channel converter option, audacity most likely needs a "vocal eliminator" VST plugin to be installed into it).
But like said, the results are sort of soddy. There's often flanging (and not the good kind) and most likely you would have to duplicate i.e. some of the drums with your own programming and sounds over the loops to restore some of the feel.

I'm not really into instrumental-songs. I like songs with lyrics and stuff.
