nick cave and the bad seeds anyone? also, though they are new...the guillemots have already racked up a strong set of amazing (and at times terribly beautiful) b-sides; if you havent heard of them, do yourself a favor and check them out. the very unknown artist color theory (think of a piano synth pop driven martin gore of depeche mode and thats who youd get) is also a good b-sides man totally forgot about them. the box set of b-sides and rarities they released a couple of years ago is a true mixed bag, but it's a lot of fun to dig through.

"Be True"
"Held Up without a Gun" "The Big Payback" "Pink Cadillac" "Jersey Girl" "Shut Out the Light" "Johnny Bye-Bye" "Janey, Don't You Lose Heart" "Stand On It" "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" "Merry Christmas, Baby" "Lucky Man" "Two for the Road" "Roulette" "Part Man, Part Monkey" "30 Days Out" Many artists would've built whole albums around most of these.
