Velvet Revolver Boots Scott Weiland Velvet Revolver Splits With Rocker Scott Weiland 4/1/08 Article Four founding members of the rock band Velvet Revolver said on Tuesday they were splitting with the group's troubled singer, Scott Weiland, citing his "increasingly erratic" behavior. The announcement came in a terse statement from the group's management company as Weiland, 40, and his recently reunited original band, Stone Temple Pilots, were set next week to announce plans for a highly anticipated summer tour. The Pilots, also known by their acronym, STP, already have confirmed a handful of upcoming dates, beginning with the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, Ohio, on May 17-18. For Weiland, whose career has long been overshadowed by heroin addiction, Rock on the Range will mark his first show with STP since the band played 13 concerts to promote its last album of new material, 2001's "Shangri-La Dee Da." Following the breakup of STP, Weiland was welcomed as lead singer for Velvet Revolver, the newly formed grunge rock band founded by three former members of Guns N' Roses -- guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum -- along with second guitarist Dave Kushner. Velvet Revolver was confronted from the start with Weiland's drug and legal problems as it juggled performance schedules, recording sessions and promotional work to accommodate his court dates and rehab. Last month, Weiland pleaded innocent to a charge of driving under the influence of drugs stemming from his arrest on a Los Angeles freeway ramp in November. He is free on $40,000 bail and is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on Friday. A public feud between Weiland and Velvet Revolver's drummer already had cast doubt on the band's future when the statement on behalf of Sorum, Slash, McKagan and Kushner was issued under the headline "Velvet Revolver to Part Ways with Singer." "This band is all about its fans and its music, and Scott Weiland isn't 100% committed to either," Slash was quoted as saying. "Among other things, his increasingly erratic on-stage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on." There was no immediate comment from Weiland, Stone Temple Pilots or their representatives.

It is too bad that dude can't keep his life together. He is fucking so talented and to let it all waste away because of drugs is just sad..... 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

That's really sad, I like Scott Weiland, and he's a very talented guy. It's a shame that he can't keep his life together.

Ah, it's about time! I saw that coming 4 years ago when I saw them live... couldn't understand back then why, after the Axl experience, the GNR dudes hooked up with another unstable singer! Weiland is an ass! He was always the weak link! His public fighting with Matt last week was just the latest straw and him announcing the end of VR on stage! They should have gotten together with Sebastian Bach right away... even though he doesn't really have a smaller ego! Looking forward to see which new singer they choose! Kinda strange though that they annouce it on April 1st! [Edited 4/2/08 0:01am]

Weiland Hits Back At Ex-Velvet Revolver Mates
Link 4/2/08 A day after the non-singing members of Velvet Revolver announced they were moving on without him, frontman Scott Weiland has responded to the move via a venom-filled statement. Weiland says he already "claimed the group dead in the water on March 20 in Glasgow," but was most upset by Slash's comment questioning his commitment to Velvet Revolver. As previously reported, Weiland will rejoin his former bandmates in Stone Temple Pilots this summer for their first tour in seven years. "I have to say it is a blatant and tired excuse to cover up the truth," he says. "The truth of the matter is that the band had not gotten along on multiple levels for some time. On a musical level, there were moments of joy, inspiration, fun ... at times, but let's not forget the multiple trips to rehab every member of the band had taken (with the exception of one member, no need to mention his name)." Returning to STP, he says, will be a stark contrast to playing with "a handful of discontents who at one time used to call themselves a gang." And in a final dig, Weiland weighed in on Velvet Revolver's hunt for a new singer: "I think Sebastian Bach would be a fantastic choice," he said. Velvet Revolver played their last show with Weiland last night (April 1) in Amsterdam. Stone Temple Pilots' first appearance will be in mid-May at the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, Ohio.

Sebastian Bach has a lovely voice but I was never feeling VR. Like their name though.

Seb Bach wouldn't be bad, I guess.
I'd like to see John Bush (ex-Anthrax) have a pop at it too, if only cos I want him back out making kick ass records and I think he'd inspire Slash and co to write music with a bit more edge and passion than the anaemic two albums VR managed so far. Never liked Weiland anyways. Any band that is reduced to communicating via internet statements is sad enough but when you are talking about guys who have been in a band with Axl Rose, they should have learned that lesson a long time ago. This is not an exit

Sad. Scott Weiland is so talented, but he is a walking hot ghetto mess. I'm surprised he's still alive.
I hope for the best for him. It'll be cool to see the Pilots together again... at least in the likely short term. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Exclusive: Velvet Revolver’s Slash Talks Weiland Split, Search for New Singer 4/3/08 Link Rolling Stone spoke exclusively with Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash today regarding the band’s decision to split with frontman Scott Weiland. “Everybody’s just very relieved,” Slash tells RS. “This is something that’s been coming down for a while. I know everybody is tying the STP [reunion tour] thing to it, but it started way before that. We just had a lot of commitments to fulfill, so we just had to drag this thing out until the obligations were finished. Basically, we’re just excited about finding someone else and moving on.” As far as the search for a new frontman goes, Slash says, “There’s some people, but it’s really premature to start naming names. We actually worked with a guy, I won’t mention his name, before we left to go to the U.K. and there just wasn’t enough to break him in, so we’re gonna work with him again some more, and maybe some other guys as well.” As for Weiland’s recommendation that the band hire former Skid Row vocalist Sebastian Bach, Slash is unamused. “I thought [Weiland] could be a little bit more imaginative. I’m not sure if that was meant to be a pot shot or what. Whatever, it’s not worth any real drama.” [Edited 4/3/08 23:30pm]

Bach wouldn't be a good fit. Don't get me wrong he has decent vocals but he won't fit the vibe.

Slash should get one of the Snakepit singers. The black one. The one who sang on Beggar's and Hanger's On. That guy was great. Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together
