(Sign O The Times is Hissing in my metaphor there, so I guess that makes For The Roses ATWIAD). Sure, I can get with that. It's just rare that I see it near the top of anyone's list. Same with ATWIAD I suppose.

Top listings for Blue and Court And Spark, 4½ points for Ladies Of The Canyon, For The Roses and The Hissing Of Summer Lawns. Ooh, and I overlooks Travelogue; also 4½ points. So Top Six! But a shared second place with the other 4½ points-albums!

Travelogue sucks. Big time. I'm not too keen on For The Roses either. Personally, I think Song To A Seagull is her most underrated album. It's just a beautiful snapshot. I love it. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

I love Travelogue. But I love Song to a Seagull even more. I think it's my favorite.

I agree. "Night in the City", "Michael from Mountains", "The Dawntreader" and especially "Cactus Tree" are some of her greatest songs.

I agree. "Night in the City", "Michael from Mountains", "The Dawntreader" and especially "Cactus Tree" are some of her greatest songs. Those are my favorites from the album too. "I Had A King" is also beautiful, and "Marcie" has a really haunting quality. The whole album seems like it came from some capsule outside of time and space. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

I love Travelogue. Jeez, I don't have that one. It's like a 2-disc thing of her catalog done orchestral styley right? I like when Bjork songs were replayed by orchestra... really brings all of the melodies to the front.

I know the songs originally had them, but they went missing on those re-recordings. I blame forty years of smoking. To me, Travelogue is the kind of album people pretend to like out of respect for the artist. I love Joni, but I'm not that reverential. Her older, smoked out, world weary voice adds a wisdom and knowingness to her classic material. Her newer versions of "Both Sides Now" and "A Case Of You" from 2000 and many of the updates on Travelogue bring her writing and insight full circle.

Maybe down the line but right now I'm still connecting with the original compositions.
