Prince is not the only one guilty of this. Listen to the words of some of the raps/R&B songs where they describe what is "fine". Very few mention "chocolate skin" as an option. The videos echo that sentiment with the majority of the girls cast.

SO Estelle (love her song) decides to say how she thinks Prince is fine and would offer herself to him and all most of everyone can say is how she is a bitch...hoe..."dark skinned"...lord have mercy, society will never come to terms with the allure, sensuality and power of a black woman. We will forever be denied the same consideration that a lighter skinned woman will always get. Much love to my lighter skinned sistas cuz they go through their trials and tribulations also. Im not as dark as Estelle, I am mocha but I am easily offended when a beautiful dark skinned sista gets called out her name because people automatically associate dark=ugly. As for Prince, yes we are all familiar with his choice of women, at least in public. If he has dated black women besides the public affair with Nona Gaye, and it has been on the low then it hurts me to hear this. I have never heard him speak out of terms about a dark skinned woman and I know when I had the opportunity to meet him, he didnt take his eyes off of me and even grabbed my hand. He wasnt repulsed nor did he ignore me. He seems to love all women.

Why does she have to be a bitch? Folks need to check their minds and the readiness to use that term. We really need to consider the genesis of it, especially where black women (of all hues) are concerned. As others have pointed out, she was very complimentary. I agree with her, he had the same effect on me when I met him. Also, I am not light or dark, and he was VERY kind and warm with me.

Honestly, I have less of an issue with Prince dating women who look like him than I do with people who specifically seek out people who look nothing like them. Or these R&B and Rap artists who have videos littered with women who look NOTHING like them.

My preference is for men who look similar to me. However, that does not mean that I don't notice a fine man who doesn't resemble me. I am sure that is the case with Prince. He has his "type" but he is not blind. He has strayed from that type at times with women like Nona Gaye and Kim Bassinger. Although he usually sticks with his type, women who look like him - Vanity, Mani, Mayte, Susan Moonsie, Sheila E., Maneca Lightner, Troy Beyer, Robyn Power, dag he's had so many women that I can't even keep up. Anyway, you get my point.
