Madonna was always loved here in Canada and I hear her music all the time at stores, especially stuff from confessions still. I heard The Beat Goes On a few weeks ago too at a store, and Jimmy Jimmy at another store a few months ago. So it's no surprise she's doing fab here, she's still a huge artist here, which is why I find it so hard to believe that she's not really huge in the US like before.

I think he meant frozen face that looks nothing like it used to. Regarding the cover, Michael K. of D-listed got it right: "She's scaring the fuck out of me with that demon face."

She hasn't been looking like herself to me since the RRHOF induction ceremony.

like i said when you posted that on the earlier thread. If she doesn't have work done she is looking old if she has some done she isn't looking like herself. she's damned if she does and damned if she doesn't.

I can never see madonna as cher, I remember her being the young it-girl when I was really little and still see her that way, but grown, I don't write her off with the whole mother image and kabbalah thing at all, I've known her way before that.

I love D-listed! It's my oxygen...

By 'Cher route' I was implying, yes, the frozen face AND the 50 year old in a skimpy ass corset thing.

I don't think Madonna has looked like 'herself' ever since after the RIT - that's when I think she got all her work done, when she was editing hours and hours of footage of herself for that god awful documentary and saw how she really was looking - it finally sunk in.

Yeah, I know what you mean. And it's really kinda saddening me.

I've always admired her for how hard she's worked - the long hours at the gym, the regimented lifestyle, etc.

I never took her for someone who would get work done. She didn't ever shy away from going out of the house with her track suit and crow's feet showing.

Why is she going out of her way now? I can still tell it's her and she's not getting that painful overdone Tang fish look.

But she's just looking harsh, and surprised and too tight. It's nice to see that she can still make faces and smile, but part of what made her beautiful were those brilliant eyes and expressive face. She just looks a bit scary and hard to me lately.

I gotta be honest, it initially saddened me too. But then I remembered who this person is and how she is always changing her appearance so I suspect even this new look will not last forever (have any of her looks?). Maybe I'm wrong but I think at some point she'll get bored with her new alien cheek implants and just let the shit hang the way it's supposed to. lol Ultimately, I will always love her, regardless of whether she chooses to fuck up her face or sing cheesy duets with it-people. The fact is this: she is someone who has brought me so much joy through my life (especially my formative years) that she could move her nose to the back of her head and I'll still support her and see her shows and buy her albums. She's always going to be my little itlaian-american midwestern art-slut with a killer rack that showed me how to never be ashamed of who I am. mushy

btw, I really don't like this "4 Minutes" song. I've really tried to. I listened to it on repeat for a half an hour 3 days in a row, and I just can't get into it.

The lyrics are horrible (as are those on the other 2 songs I've heard). I can't even tell what this song is supposed to be about, aside from showing off her new friends and them saying Madonna-Madonna over and over. It's like a big starfucking cirle jerk, but don't ask me what the lyrics are actually ABOUT. They're so cliched and non-sequitir that they have absolutely no meaning. And why is she always saying "Yeah" in her songs lately? It's the new "say goodbye" or "walking out the door" or "mmmmm-mmmmm"

And please, Madonna producers, PLEASE go back to processing her vocals. It was nice the first time ("I Deserve It"), but the novelty has worn off. Everything sounds pinched and nasally lately.

Strangely enough, I'm still looking forward to the album, though I hate all 3 songs I've heard from it so far. And they all suffer from exactly the same problems: lyrics, vocals, producer intrusion, etc.

And that snipped of "Miles Away" with people talking over it doesn't sound any more promising to me than the rest of it. confused

If I end up liking Janet's 2008 album (which I do - I love it, actually) more than Madonna's, I'm probably going to have to shoot myself. neutral

i guess the good thing for those out there that hate Timbo and Timberland they have now worked with Madonna and recieved the kiss of death commerically at least.

what has happened to Nile, Jellybean, Pat, Stephen, Shep, Babyface, William, Mirwais, Britney, Ricky Martin, Prince and Stuart since they recorded with her

I think the Vanity Fair cover is the best pic from this era; not thrilled about the others...

And as far as the song goes; shrug it's passable. It's about as good as "Feedback" by Janet. It's a totally producer-driven song; it could be sung by any one of today's artists. It's not a 10, not even an 8; but it's better than a lot of the drivel that's polluting the airwaves.

With that being said, "Discipline" was the first Janet CD I've not purchased *EVER*; but that was from being burned on everything post TVR (excepting Damita Jo). Madonna has yet to completely fuck me on a CD purchase (excepting American Life). I just think that her personality is stronger than certain other artists', and even with Timbaland and Pharell producing her album, a little "Madonna" is bound to leak into the songs. (I have no idea what happened with Janet's latest CD. It's so faceless).

Eh, whatever. She'll always be the woman that sang "Who's That Girl" and "Take a Bow" to me; I'll always be at least a smidge interested in what she's doing, what she's saying, and who's she's working with. I'm sure I'll buy "Hard Candy".
