Besides, it's not like I came in here and said something pointless like, "Madonna is a whore!!"

I just think this song is awful. It's another stale, insipid, uninspired dance track with the obligatory popular guest artist.

We know Madonna is capable of something more provocative or insightful than this. Is it too much to expect a little more maturity (in the form of more substantial subject matter) in songs from a middle aged woman?

[Edited 3/26/08 6:54am]

I agree. That song is shit, and I usually dig Madonna.

Oh, and she's a whore.

I love Madonna AND Mariah Carey. I went to see each of their concert two years ago. Confessions on a Dance Floor was Madonna's best album in years!! That said, I'm not feeling this new song. Unlike Carey's song TMB which I've been listening non-stop 2nite since downloading it. I'm gonna wait 4 the album Hard Candy and sample the album then, but I'm really disappointed with Madonna's new single. BTW, congrats 2 her 4 her R&R Hall of Fame Induction-- she truly deserves it!

This is an excerpt from Attitude magazine’s track by track review of "Hard Candy" which is in the April issue of Attitude out on March 31st...

’Attitude Fashion Director Luke Day is not a drag queen but appears as Madonna in this month’s issue of Dazed & Confused. Attitude Associate Editor Matthew Todd is also not a drag queen but spent nearly two hours 1-on-1 with Madonna for our exclusive interview two years ago. Here they review the most hotly anticipated release of the year.

MILES AWAY
L: Absolutely genius. Got to be huge. It’s got the great hand-clapping bit in the middle but it’s not a stomper.
M: Sort of delicate... picks you up and wafts you away on a pillow of windswept tears. (laughter) ’Were always at our best when we’re miles away’.
L: So far away...
M: So far away...
L: Let’s cry now. You would not be able to not clap along to this in a concert. Unexpectedly warming…
M: …which is a very Madonna thing to do. It sounds resigned. It makes you want to have a boyfriend so you can reject him so you can sing this song. (Cackle).

SHE’S NOT ME
L: J’adore this! I’m better than the competition. It’s so drag.
M: Is this the campest thing she’s ever done? ’She’s started dressing like me, talking like me and freakin’ me out. She started reading my books and stealing my looks and lingerie, what’s that about?’.
L: (Laughs) I want to dance to this now.
M: It reminds me of Thief of Hearts.
L: Disco funk. And there’s football whistles.
M: And double hand claps.
L: Any song where she repeats a word three times - like ’she was stealing, stealing, stealing’ gets me.

BEAT GOES ON
L: This is unrecognisable from the leak! It’s one of the highlights. Total 80s disco. Xylophones, full on synths. Sort of thing you’d hear at Horse Meat Disco, an ’everybody get up and dance’ record.
M: Very 80s but not in a modern electro pop way. You think you’re listening to a Shalamar record and then Kanye West comes in.
L: It’s got a Taana Gardner feel to it.
M: It’s the point where she turns on the fun turbo boosters. This is the Candy. It’s too too good...
L: LOVE. IT. Especially Pharrell’s Beep, beeps.
M: It’s gonna be played in every disco in the world for 12 - 200 year olds. Could be an instant classic.

I think I'm gonna really like "She's Not Me" lol disco funk? Bring it on!!

On the other thread,I said that "4 Minutes" is the most commercial single Madonna has released in years.Looks like the song is on its way to becoming a worldwide hit:

"4 Minutes debut on the Billboard Hot 100

"4 Minutes" will make its debut on next week's Billboard Hot 100 at Number 68.This does NOT include iTunes sales,so this is an amazing start.Insiders predict a huge jump next week into the Top 15 or way higher....the sky is the limit!

source: DrownedMadonna

Billboard on "4 Minutes" debut

Madonna and her recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductor Justin Timberlake enjoy another special moment together as "4 Minutes" debuts at Number 23 on the CHR/Top 40 Airplay chart, the list's highest entry since Christina Aguilera's "Ain't No Other Man" roared in at No.21 in June 2006.

"4 Minutes" is also Madonna's best start in the tally since "Frozen" opened at No.16 in February 1998.

source: Billboard

Madonna sets Radio Record in Canada!

"4 Minutes" is the fastest single to hit #1 in Canadian radio history

Broadcast Data Service (BDS),the company that monitors airplay in North America has confirmed that "4 Minutes",the first single from Madonna's forthcoming album 'Hard Candy',has debuted at #1 on the Canadian CHR Audience chart. This marks the first time any single has entered at the top of either CHR chart in BDS history."4 Minutes" was cowritten by Madonna,Justin Timberlake and Timbaland.Timberlake also co-produced the track with Timbaland and performs vocals with Madonna.

The song also entered the CHR spins chart at #5,only the second song ever to debut in the Top 10 on that chart."4 Minutes" also entered the All Format Audience chart at #2,the highest debut in the chart's history.

'Hard Candy' will be released in North America on Tuesday,April 29,2008.The album features Justin Timberlake on multiple tracks and production by Pharrell Williams,Timbaland and Nate "Danja" Hills.

"4 Minutes" is currently the #1 selling single on iTunes while 'Hard Candy' has the distinction of being the current best selling album on iTunes based strictly on pre-orders.

source: Warner Music Canada

"4 Minutes" on iTunes charts from different countries

iTunes US: #10
iTunes UK: #4
iTunes France: #1
iTunes Australia: #1
iTunes Canada: #1
iTunes Denmark: #2
iTunes Finland: #1
iTunes Ireland: #5
iTunes Netherlands: #1
iTunes New Zealand: #8
iTunes Norway: #1
iTunes Sweden: #1

"4 Minutes" sold more than 12,000 downloads last week in the US

Due to the importance of iTunes and digital sales,a low debut was expected for "4 Minutes" on the Billboard Hot 100 (released Wednesday evening).Insiders were predicting a debut in the 80s,simply because all of the other songs have sales included.

But we got a small, but great surprise this morning.

The Verizon and other digital phone carrier sales gave "4 Minutes" an unexpected sales presence this week."4 Minutes" sold 12,523 downloads last week in the USA,giving the song a Billboard Hot 100 debut at Number 68.Totally unexpected, but great news.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Billboard charts, the iTunes explosion we are experiencing right now in the U.S. will not have an effect on the Hot 100 until next week's chart, which will be unveiled on April 22nd.

Madonna Song Of The Week: "MILES AWAY"

partial lyrics:
You'll always love me more
Miles Away
I hear it in your voice when you're
Miles Away
You're not afraid to tell me
Miles Away
I guess we're at our best when we're
Miles Away

so far away (so far away)
so far away (so far away
so far away (so far away
so far away (so far away)

I just woke up from a fuzzy dream
You never would believe the things that I have seen
I looked in the mirror and I saw your face
You looked right through me
You were miles away

All my dreams they fade away
I'll never be the same
If you could see me the way you see yourself
you'd pretend to be someone else

You'll always love me more (when you're)
Miles Away
I hear it in your voice when we're
Miles Away
You're not afraid to tell me
Miles Away
I guess we're at our best when we're
Miles Away

so far away (so far away)
so far away (so far away
so far away (so far away
so far away (so far away

Not sure if this is real or not...

Some information about the Limited Edition :

- The CD will be housed in a candy box that comes with zipper
- A pack of 35 mint flavour candies in transparent wrappers will be packed in the box as well
- It comes with several Handy Candy promotional pin badges
- It also comes with 16 pages of color CD booklet
- Includes additional 2 more 4M remixes
- Comes with a tracklisting sticker on the back of the candy box (just like ROL, Music limited edition)

Looks kinda fan made, but it's a nice idea if it's produced properly.

Sounds super heavy duty in comparison to her other limited edition sets (I only am judging based on AL and COADF, though). Doubt it's real...wait and see.

I mainly want it for the pins.I have a ton of Madonna pins and it would be cool to have a few more lol But yeah, this special edition is better than the last two ('American Life' and 'COADF').Actually, the COADF special editon wasn't so bad.I like the big, glossy book of photographs that came with it.Plus,we got one bonus track ("Fighting Spirit",a decent song). The 'American Life' special edition was grabage.I regret that I bought it.Who the hell needs stupid postage stamps that you can't even use?! A total waste of money.

i hope the slower version is on the cd her vocals work better with it, they don't sound so lost

plus, it sounds more like a madonna song, on the faster version, i end up focusing on justin

i love the faster beat though, and love how it works in that commercial which had to be inspired by the "get together" video

I love the fast version. My main complaint with today's R&B is that the songs are too slow.Based on the songs I've heard so far,it looks like Madonna made sure these guys gave her some fast beats. If she had done a slow, midtempo R&B album (like most R&B artists these days),I would be bitching right now.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. This is midtempo at most. It's not much different than the beat for Timbaland's Give It To Me.

Erotica (OK, I love this song now - but I hated it when it first came out)
Dont Cry For Me Argentina

From what I can make out - most people dont like the song because a) its got Justin all over or/and b) the genre isnt really their thing.

I definitely agree that having Justin all over the song really makes it feel less of a Madonna song. I never think she fares well on duets, and while I love this song - i still feel M should have sung more of the chorus. The genre is typical Timbaland territory. if u like his stuff you should like this really. Its a solid song within its field - and I actually think the chorus is really catchy.

In terms of lead singles - it possibly isnt one of her best, but American Life still holds the mantle of worst, not because its awful, but its soo radio unfriendly i cant believe it was ever decided as a good choice. Hung up is an equally slight song in its structure, but as a dance song is brilliant in its construction as a radio friendly peice of dance pop - i feel this is similar.

My main problem with this is its boring structure. I love the pace of it, and the beat, but there's no build or climax to the song. verse, bridge chorus x 2 then its over. One thing i loved about Stuart Price's production was the way he built each song up to a climax as good dance (and Madonna) music should. This just kind of happens - gets you grooving but its over before you're really into it. An extended version would be highly welcome, but im relying on the remixes to offer something more.

Im sure the album will offer loads of variety and thats what im loking for. We know the thing most people love about M is that she doesnt repeat herself, and time and agin people hear her new stuff and proclaim how its not as good as her older stuff. That is of course always subjective, but as long as she doesnt stand still im happy.

Great post clapping

for me, since I'm like one of 3 people on this site that actually like Timberlake and I am a huge Madonna fan..this song works for me. But i can definitely see the Madonna purist having fits over this. Its a great pop record designed to get attention from the mass public . Compared to the rest of the madonna catalog , its average.

You know, I was prepared to hate this song. Primarily because it had Justin singing on it (I don't get him). BUT, the song has grown on me. I love the marching band horns (are those real horns or synths?) and I do like the back and fourth between Madge and Justin. BUT, were Timabalands grunts really necessary? He ruins the song. Is there away to omit his voice?

It does have a perfect "hey summer is coming," kinda vibe.

I was also expecting the lyrics to be a bit more creative. I mean, after all, they only have four minutes to save the world. lol But we've discussed her lack of writing good lyrics ad nauseum on here...
