Good pick...yeah my girl from Dogtown....Venice Ca. Next to Chaka, she's my all time favorite female vocalist ever. The woman is the shit. Man she can blow. Writes all her own shit, can play everything...damn. No wonder Rick had to get with her. Released one of the greatest albums from the 80's "Emerald City". Her tribute album to Prince. She has said that P was the inspiration for that album. But yeah, I have all of Teena's joints. This debut is a great one. I remember seeing her when she was on the show with Rick during Rick's peak during Street Songs. Man, Teena would come out and just flat out jam with Rick's band. She would scat with the sax player like a vintage jazz singer and turn it out with Rick during Fire and Desire. Black girls at that time HAD to give it up to Teena cuz she was hella authentic. They couldn't front on her even if they wanted to. She was killin'. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him." http://ccoshea19.googlepa...ssanctuary http://ccoshea19.googlepages.com

I bet you were at one of those Rick James concerts in Long Beach,CA (July 1981) That's where the 'Live' CD on the 'Street Songs' remaster comes from.

Some interesting trivia about this album: Some of the songs were intended for Diana Ross! In 1979,Rick was asked to produce some songs for labelmate Diana Ross.Motown requested only a few songs, but Rick wanted to produce an entire album for Ms.Ross.It was all or nothing,as far as he was concerned. He wrote the song "I'm A Sucker For Your Love" as a duet between him and Diana. He was adamant about producing an entire album for her. When she passed on the idea,he recorded the song with Teena Marie for her album.
