His skills were uncomparable during the mid and late 90's.. but now since working w/ nellie furtado, JT, madonna etc...brothaman has sold out to a white POP audience.. i dont see the point of him producing for white people making him a sell out.
i never quite liked his style but im sure if he would work with studio mucians to replay his beats/grooves things would improve for the better. + i dont like his attitude | |

Dont get it twisted well he worked with black artists for so many years, the only logical thing to do next is expand his horizons and capitalize on that success, considering that the music he did with blacks appealed to people from all kinds of backgrounds. Even entertainment overseas from Japan and India were making Timbaland sounding tracks in the late 90's and early 00's, and we all know he borrowed samples from Arabic music as well, so why not. He is after all,more successful than someone like rodney jerkins. | |

Every artist changes. Most usually fall off when they stop worrying about their success and start "expanding". Timb's not hungry any more so there's no need for him to work hard to make good tracks. I think Aalyiah's death had a devastating effect on his music. What I hear is him holding back a lot. Its like there's a part of him that won't let him make tracks like he used to with Aalyiah. BTW, I understand exactly how you feel. But this isn't new. Many black music producers like Maurice Starr, Full Force, Lionel Ritchie, and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds had to do the same thing at one point in their careers. | |

And I'm sorry to have to say it this way, but that kind of attitude reminds me of kids telling their black peers they are not down with them because they don't talk using their slang or have all black friends. Gotta make hay while the sun still shines (and, in the producer game, it doesn't shine for long). I haven't heard the whole album, but I think he did an awesome job with Nelly Furtado. Why is working with black, non-pop (although I might argue that the music you're referring to is, in fact, "pop") artists somehow better than working with white pop artists? It's me, Ace! Some of his cuts with Justin were pretty good. Lovestoned was one of the best if not THE best song on the record from a compositional standpoint. That track with 50 & Justin was garbage and he worked the shit out of Keri on his solo CD and has yet to "pay her back" musically. Keri Hilson is to Timbaland what Jill Jones was to Prince.
The problem is he has no desire to do better. Just like Pharrell, when the public accepted their weakest tracks as gold, then there was no reason to make "gold" tracks. I see nothing wrong with a producer expanding their horizons and (as someone put it) "going where the money is" Who knows how long Timbaland's sound will be "hot"? He's gotta milk this thing for all it's worth.He wants to reach as many listeners as he can.
Doesn't he still work with Missy? I had heard that he was producing some tracks for her new album. | |
