You and I both know the greatest breakup song of all time is "Putting the Damage On". she has some of the best. but nobody cheated so as great as the song is, its not completely apropos of the circumstances. listening to achtung baby, i realized today what a great breakup record that is. almost every song is applicable. An individualist is a man who lives for his own sake and by his own mind; he neither sacrifices himself to others nor sacrifices others to himself...

post some suggestions, all genres welcome! thanks! "Smell Yo Dick"by Riskay larry luvlife

Especially "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses" and "So Cruel". Reminds me of a breakup I had right after my freshman year of college; thank God for Achtung Baby...playing those two songs ad naseum kept me sane. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

off the top of my head, these are some that I've been playing:
Me'shell: "Shirk" (from her latest) Joni Mitchell: "Both Sides Now" (version from 2000) George Michael: "Waiting For That Day" (as someone said, only if you want him back) Annie Lennox: "Why" ABBA: "Knowing Me, Knowing You" Prince: "Open Book," "Empty Room" The Cure: "Apart" Tori Amos: "Winter" (dunno if it's a breakup song, but it is to me) kd lang: "Thread" U2: "One" (of course) Bowie: "Strangers When We Meet" (but i don't know why) "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

but on the other hand, just turn on the radio and you'll see that about 99% of all songs are depressing as hell after a breakup. "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

This. Possibly the greatest breakup album ever because it's negative as hell, but still puts a smile on your face and makes you chuckle a bit.

...It's Over by Roy Orbison Your baby doesn't love you any more Golden days before they end Whisper secrets to the wind Your baby won't be near you any more Tender nights before they fly Send falling stars that seem to cry Your baby doesn't want you any more It's over It breaks your heart in two, To know she's been untrue But oh what will you do? When she says to you There's someone new We're through We're through It's over It's over It's over All the rainbows in the sky Start to weep, then say goodbye You won't be seeing rainbows any more Setting suns before they fall, Echo to you that's all that's all But you'll see lonely sunsets after all It's over, it's over, it's over It's over tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 That's a killer ain't it? I also like Neil Young's Star of Bethlehem... All your dreams and your lovers won't protect you They're only passing through you in the end They'll leave you stripped of all that they can get to And wait for you to come back again

this album has the perfect ratio of "fuck you" to "i'm fucked" moments, and it sounds like it was written while downing a few bottles of whiskey. not to say that it's sloppy or trainwrecky - i think it's a gorgeous album - but the mood of the songs is unmistakable: she's a badass, but she's still down in the shit. on the other hand, it's a really melodic, nicely produced album. i'll listen to it even when i'm not breaking up with someone.

Whisky and meds! Damn, just love that record and yes, this shit fucked me up hard when I first got it cuz I was pained out!. Whatever you do, do not listen to Sade's "Promise" if you want to live to see tomorrow That album is fucking depression central.
