In the past few days I'm really feeling José Gonzalez, an Argentinian-Swedish acoustic guitarist and vocalist. Dude is pretty interesting.

i just saw one of his videos for the first time (first time hearing his music too)

i admit, i'm interested, and will probably be taking a closer look...

He was in Toronto on the 15th, an I MISSED HIM!!! bawl He's getting a lot of airplay on CBC. Cool stuff.

I'm travelling to London in a few weeks time, so I've got lots of British stuff on these days. This band in particular has been garnering a lot of repeat rotation on my player. I was kinda-sorta playing this and/or humming this all weekend. Great spring album.

They sound great.

Thanks, Lammastide. I really like their album A Tale of Two Cities. Really melodic, mood-embracing music.

I was listening to that three weeks ago! There was this amazing documentary on tele about great soul singers and they got highlighted in the Sam Cooke episode; Mavis was even interviewed about him, as was Candi Staton.

Until then I've been playing discs fron Miles Live at Montreux (20 discs) boxset

i just saw her perform live last night. let's just say it's a show i'll never forget. lol

review!

first off, she gave and gave and gave till it hurt. lol

i don't want to describe her show too much, because half of what's amazing about her performance is the spectacle of it all. i WILL say this: the introduction of her performance involved a videotaped introduction by cher. lol

i went to the show never having seen her live before and hoping she'd be completely entertaining and fabulous, but completely bracing myself for her to be a totally untalented hack who might just spend the night waddling around on stage talking about bedazzlers and lip-synching poorly.

my fears were unfounded: miss lady was ON last night. the club was packed and she owned every single one of us. it was a hardcore mystic unicorn gem party to the nth degree.

i freakin LOVE leslie hall. she has stage presence, charisma, a PERFECT eye for kitsch, and she's bizarre and likeable at the same time. she has a schtick like pee wee herman or judy tenuta, but she's also a great performer and she doesn't get so caught up in her schtick that you feel like she completely limits herself.

the highlight for me was "zombie killer", but that's probably because it's my favorite leslie song right now. she also had a portion of her show where she brings people on stage who are wearing gem sweaters, and she blesses and christens their sweaters. it's precious. touched

the whole show was completely awesome. it ran a bit over an hour. i didn't check my watch once, and when they announced the last song i joined the entire audience in a big "AWWWWW!!!" maybe that's why leslie ended the show with a britney spears dance party, where she did a little breakdancing to "toxic" before she snuck off stage.

perfect night. super fun show. highly recommended. nod
