"Jones vs.Jones" by Kool and The Gang (1981) Say what you will about the J.T. years, but there is no denying that Kool and The Gang continued to make GREAT music throughout the 80s.This song is from the 1980 'Celebration' album.Released as a single just as summer 1981 began,it's one of the finest songs from that amazing summer.
I received a notice They call me on the phone to come and sign the papers of Jones vs. Jones gone are the days of me and you... ![]() . [Edited 3/19/08 6:37am]

i never liked it.
I have a hard time sayin which album I like more - "Celebrate!" or the one that came after it from 1981. the first one has the great title track and other joyous songs, but overall i like the next better because there are great tracks as well and less ballads, which i'm not too keen on.

You're referring to their 'Something Special' album, which was released in the fall of 1981.This album is notable for the hit singles "Take My Heart" and "Get Down On It",as well as "Steppin Out" and the slow jam "No Show",which became a Quiet Storm favorite.I enjoy this album alot more than 'Celebration' too. Interestingly, the next album 'As One',released in 1982,is all but forgotten.Nobody ever talks about that one.

It's OK but the main two songs I listened to on that album were "Celebration" and "Take It To The Top". Andy is a four letter word.

My favorite Kool and the Gang album is "Ladies Night". That one has several jams and very few ballads. Andy is a four letter word.

Love that album! It's the perfect soundtrack for a night of partyin' in the disco era.I always felt that the last song "Too Hot" sounds out of place. On a mostly uptempo album, that song is such a downer ![]()

Discos always played a slow song right before they closed for the evening. ![]() Andy is a four letter word.

I have seen quite a few copies of that album on vinyl but the problem is it is a good damn album. IMO it is their most underrated album. To me it certainly is a better album than the bland followup in the heart which joanna obviously carried. I think what happened with the As one album the lead single big fun kind of killed the early momentum of the lp. I think people were just celebrated out at that point. The songs didn't sound alike in any way but the theme was the same. They fared better with the second single ooh la la la(let's go dancing) which was great live. Street kids was my favorite jam from that album. I also liked hi di he hi de ho, pretty baby and the title track. As one probably didn't rank as a kool favorite among many listeners but it certainly was a good album imo. [Edited 3/19/08 19:13pm] Don't laugh at my funk

![]() Funny. Earlier today I was watching their old In The Heart concert, the (unedited version) one that aired on HBO back in '83/'84. Great show! "Ladies Night", "Tonight", "Take my Heart", and "Get Down On It" were off the chain at this show. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!
