No, you shouldn't make yourself look stupid with blanket ass statements like that. I get your steeze. You're the godson of Hendrix and all that shit, he taught you everything you know, etc but you have to remain anonymous to protect your security. rolleyes Better yet, why don't you whip out some youtube footage or something to prove that you actually know 1% of half the shit you claim you do... D'Angelo might not play to YOUR standards but he CAN play. Check this thread from Russ Elevado Here

I have the 1000 Deaths track and a few others.... yes... D'Angelo CAN play guitar.

WOW. I haven't read these descriptions of what the new stuff sounds like.

If it is anything like they R describing, I'm going 2 love this album.

From Questlove:

"Here's the deal: 11 songs are done. Most need lyrics. Most are in the 7-9 minute range. All are epic as ****. Most need a haircut. Shit I love. But shit I know the marketplace ain't even ready for. If "Untitled" video is what got him over on the idiot side of things, he is gonna have to get his physical game back and come with some strong ass imagining to make up for the fact that there will be no radio friendly single--newbies I'm warning you now, if you want to "understand" this record--you must purchase and study the following: [Funkadelic's] Maggot Brain, America Eats Its Young, Cosmic Slop, Standing on the Verge of Getting It On, Let's Take it to the Stage, Tales of Kidd Funkadelic, [Sly & The Family Stone's] There's a Riot Going On, [Miles Davis'] On the Corner, [Shuggie Otis'] Inspiration Information, [Brian Wilson's] Smile, [the Beatles'] Abbey Road, Revolver, [Jimi Hendrix's] Electric Ladyland, [the Sex Pistol's] Nevermind the Bullocks Here's the Sex Pistols, [Prince's] Dirty Mind, [Tony Williams'] Ego and Emergency!. Study and absorb and research this shit now. Memorize it. Understand why the albums I mentioned were important in their historical context. Lower your expectations. This will throw you for a loop."

Russ adds:

i would include 2 more on the list of required albums:
(hendrix) band of gypsys, (beatles) white album
he liked the frank zappa i turned him onto, but i think he's lost the discs...

keep in mind that this info is very old. Word has it that he's scrapped most of the experimental stuff and started from scratch.

I don't know if I believe a word of this. D probably has not recorded crap. A. Leeds claims he has recorded several projects, but I just don't believe that.

I hear he is recording a new album. I ready for it. If he could just leave the weed alone, he might be alright.

Please spare me the continuous, "Oh-I'm-a-celebrity-on-this-here-messageboard"-type-shit. To get back on topic, I stand behind what I said, D'Angelo can play guitar. Once again, it might not be to YOUR standards. But to say some shit like, "he can't play a lick of guitar" when it's not true is what I consider ignorant. If your retort, consists of "99.9% of people who know me and know who I am know..." then I'm going to tune you out. You that shit... A LOT. If you're not impressed with certain things, that's fine. But don't expect opinions to be swayed by "if-you knew-what-I-knew-and-if-you-know-who-I-know" type of responses. Once again, I don't see you posting any Youtube links of your own playing, Superstar... so until then... Have a Coke and a smile and...

Some people talk about people they admire...some people talk about people that they know...Seeing that I have been hired to play the instrument in question here..By the Man that we are discussing..This back and forth exchange is really funny to me..
Have a great day bsk3601 and keep enjoying the sounds ! wink

Again, here you go with that "look-at-me" shit!!! lol Unless, you are Mike Campbell, Jef Lee Johnson, or Charles Alford... then I am not REMOTELY impressed. Until the next time, keep on finding that validity and truth in those Youtube clips of your stellar performances that little ol' peons like myself could never live up to.

I own all those LP's and discs that ?uest and Russ are talking about. If D is headed in that direction then more power to him. Can't wait to hear it.

D probably may not play guitar at the Jimi/Prince level, but he probably knows enough to write his own jams (which is cool). It'll be interesting to hear what he does.

nod Agreed. D is rather creative so it would be a funky treat to see what he comes up with on the upcomming CD.
