D'Angelo's "She's Always in My Hair" Cover I'm probably the last person to hear this and while it's not blowing me away, I'm surprised...it's not total SHIT
Good for him. Someone tell him I said that, it might bring him out of the donut eating cheeseburger pounding rut he's in.

I hate his cover of it but it's not as bad as others who've fucked up P's songs, so I'll give him that...

Other than Meli'sa Morgan, Chaka Khan and Stephanie Mills, I'm not too thrilled about other artists attempt in covering Prince's music.

I liked it. It's one of the better covers...if that's saying much.
I still wanna pass a federal law that only allows Chaka Khan to cover his songs, though.

Never heard it, never wanted to. I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

I think that's D on guitar, ?uestlove on drum and Raphael Saadiq on bass. Cool cover, quite fierce in fact.

I think that's D on guitar, ?uestlove on drum and Raphael Saadiq on bass. Cool cover, quite fierce in fact. Even if P did play on it, it wouldn't make it a better song. Hell, Al Green assisted Queen Latifah in murdering one of the most perfect songs EVER - their version of Simply Beautiful is a CRIME

I like it. Especially the beginning.

I dig it. One of the better Prince covers done by someone. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Seriously one of the better ones.
That's true. Most Prince covers are God-Awful...Ginuine comes to mind. But I can listen to D'Angelo and not think "oooh noo, he's covering Prince!!!" It just D'Angelo...singing a good song.

I love it, 'cause it sounds like he made the song out of love instead of a producer, or an exec telling him "you should sing this song".
I love Alicia Keys, and I like her version of How Come You Don't Call Me, but I think she never heard the song until someone played it for her. D's version sounds like he, ?uest, and Raphael were hanging in the studio. And someone said, "you know what will be really dope"??? JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

I actually like it. And I normally don't like other peoples' attempts to cover P's songs. This and Stephanie Mills' cover of "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" are the only two off the top of my head that don't make me cringe and put my teeth on edge. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'll play it first and tell you what it is later. -Miles Davis-

I like it. It's loose, gritty and retains the funk of the original. It has rock with some killer drums and a "boys in the studio" feel that I like.

It's not bad. I remember hearing it in the supermarket with my mom and I thought it was Prince for a second. Cool cover, I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I still think Sinead did the best Prince cover ever.
Haven't heard this, but D'Angelo's cover of Smokey's "Cruising" was great, so he's got form when it comes to covering his favourites. “The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them, inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.”

You're the godson of Hendrix and all that shit, he taught you everything you know, etc but you have to remain anonymous to protect your security. Better yet, why don't you whip out some youtube footage or something to prove that you actually know 1% of half the shit you claim you do... D'Angelo might not play to YOUR standards but he CAN play. Check this thread from Russ Elevado Here I have the 1000 Deaths track and a few others.... yes... D'Angelo CAN play guitar.

Check this thread from Russ Elevado Here I have the 1000 Deaths track and a few others.... yes... D'Angelo CAN play guitar. WOW. I haven't read these descriptions of what the new stuff sounds like. If it is anything like they R describing, I'm going 2 love this album. From Questlove: "Here's the deal: 11 songs are done. Most need lyrics. Most are in the 7-9 minute range. All are epic as ****. Most need a haircut. Shit I love. But shit I know the marketplace ain't even ready for. If "Untitled" video is what got him over on the idiot side of things, he is gonna have to get his physical game back and come with some strong ass imagining to make up for the fact that there will be no radio friendly single--newbies I'm warning you now, if you want to "understand" this record--you must purchase and study the following: [Funkadelic's] Maggot Brain, America Eats Its Young, Cosmic Slop, Standing on the Verge of Getting It On, Let's Take it to the Stage, Tales of Kidd Funkadelic, [Sly & The Family Stone's] There's a Riot Going On, [Miles Davis'] On the Corner, [Shuggie Otis'] Inspiration Information, [Brian Wilson's] Smile, [the Beatles'] Abbey Road, Revolver, [Jimi Hendrix's] Electric Ladyland, [the Sex Pistol's] Nevermind the Bullocks Here's the Sex Pistols, [Prince's] Dirty Mind, [Tony Williams'] Ego and Emergency!. Study and absorb and research this shit now. Memorize it. Understand why the albums I mentioned were important in their historical context. Lower your expectations. This will throw you for a loop." Russ adds: i would include 2 more on the list of required albums: (hendrix) band of gypsys, (beatles) white album he liked the frank zappa i turned him onto, but i think he's lost the discs...
