Snoop Dogg: "Ugly women don't sell records"

Snoop Dog says: Ugly Women Don't Sell Records

He came right out and said it.
jacked from Miss Info

Here’s a taste of Snoop’s kooky stream of consciousness rant on women, thanks to the friends at BET.com’s Hip Hop Vs. America blog.

How many ugly women selling records? None! Only the pretty ones sell records. Beyonce, Mary J, Keyshia Cole, the ugly ones don’t sell. I ain’t gon say no names, but they don’t sell records. They just be singing their little hearts out, but they don’t get no sales, cause they ugly. Now, that’s my fault? I can see this on TV now: ‘Snoop Dogg called me, ugly.’ You beautiful on the inside, baby. What I wanna say to go on top of that, to the chocolate women, the dark-skinned women, I love ya’ll. I got a chocolate daughter at home. I always tell her chocolate is the best thing in the world….

and then Snoop on women in hip hop videos….

Hip-hop is not the stories. It’s not a soap opera. Hip-hop is not ‘The View.’ It’s not…’The Oprah Winfrey Show.’ Hip-hop is what it is. We have our certain views on women the way we do. It’s like Playboy. Do anybody got something to say about the way Playboy view women? They take their shirt off and show their t**ties. That’s the first way to get into Playboy. You gotta show Hugh Heffner your t**ties if you wanna get in Playboy. There’s nothing degrading about that, but at the same time, when we show women in videos, they have their clothes on. We don’t play videos on BET with women naked; we can’t get away with that. But it’s degrading what we’re doing, when in actuality, we’re giving these women a chance to shine. Now, if these women would become directors and depict women in a different light, then that would give them a different light as far as the way people view them.
tho' I battled blind
love is a fate resigned
memories mar my mind
love it is a fate resigned

Over futile odds
and laughed at by the Gods
and now the final frame
Love is a losing game

disbelief he could have said less attractive .. ... he's telling the truth as far as labels wanting to promote prettier women (underline message of labels), but he could have used a better term for the less attractive women disbelief ..

I'm glad we didn't have to worry about looks back in the day, because the sister's were doin' their thang with the strength of their vocals and not looks. They didn't give a damn about that ugly mug when they hit that sweet note that made the crowd testify....have mercy.

They were not all beauty queens and still sold records on vocals alone... I can't fault him for what he says because it's the truth now days, non attractive artist don't sell as well, and snoop and any other artist don't mind them taking their track to a level, that a non singing pretty women can't. I fault that on the money hungry record industry, which is all about image & gimmicks and lil' talent ...from the late 80's or early 90'sd to now.

Martha Wash and C&C Music Fictionally incident, Martha was not ugly but her weight was the problem. Hell I guess he should look @ one of his not so attractive female peers in the rap game Missy Elliott she seems to do well..... so it's not your beauty... it's your booty. lol

Snoop Doggy Wrong!

Acutally, she used to be very pretty but you can't say now that her looks are selling records. Her album is still in the Top Ten.

Its a shame that Snoop dont realize how much the pimps of the music industry(the corporate big wigs) has turned him into a non thinking prostitute.

PurpleCharm

For the most part, the way a female looks play a huge part in how successful or unsuccessful they are, more so than with male artist.

Yes, people like Cassie, Christina M, etc have flopped, but would they even have a record deal if they did not look the way they look?

Women that aren't considered attractive by society standards have to come to the table with extreme amount talent - so much talent that they can't be denied, so of course there are exceptions to the "ugly women don't sell' rule.

The industry is more looks/image driven, thanks to videos.

I love how Snoop sandwiches giving women a chance to "shine" between
lamenting what he can't get away with doing on BET
and putting the weight of how women are depicted on women themselves.

Maybe he'll publicly endorse Hillary Clinton. I wonder if she would both reject and denounce? hmmm

you still have to make music thats marketable and stands out somewhat. but if you're not hot, you're not likely to even get that platform and the possibility of having major backing and a big promotion budget.
