Sean Combs denies LA Times report that his associates planned '94 Tupac attack

at 17:37 on March 17, 2008, EST.
By Sandy Cohen, THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

LOS ANGELES - Sean (Diddy) Combs has denied a report by the Los Angeles Times that his associates were responsible for the 1994 robbery and shooting of Tupac Shakur at a New York recording studio, and that he knew about the attack in advance.

"The story is a lie," the hip-hop mogul said in a statement Monday. "It is beyond ridiculous and completely false. Neither (the late rapper Notorious B.I.G.) nor I had any knowledge of any attack before, during or after it happened. ... I am shocked that the Los Angeles Times would be so irresponsible as to publish such a baseless and completely untrue story."

The 1994 shooting triggered the celebrated feud between East and West Coast rappers that led to the killings of Shakur and B.I.G.

The Times said its story was based on FBI records, interviews with people at the scene of the 1994 shooting, and statements to the FBI by an informant. None of the sources were named. The story said that Combs - who was overseeing B.I.G.'s white-hot career at the time - and others lured Shakur to the studio because of his disrespect toward them.

The story said that talent manager James Rosemond and promoter James Sabatino arranged the assault. They and Combs declined to be interviewed for the story, which appeared on the Los Angeles Times Web site but not in its paper publication.

It was not clear why the story, written by Chuck Philips, was only published online. Telephone and e-mail messages to the Times were not immediately returned.

Rosemond called the story a "libellous piece of garbage."

"In the past 14 years, I have not even been questioned by law enforcement with regard to the assault of Tupac Shakur, let alone brought up on charges," he said in a statement. "Chuck Philips, the writer ... has reached a new low by employing fourth-hand information from desperate jailhouse informants along with ancient FBI reports to create this fabrication. I simply ask for all rap fans and fans of Tupac to analyze this fiction for what it is."

To be honest, I don't ever think there will be a clear assumption or description of the people who were associated in the killings of both Tupac and Biggie. For almost 12 years, there have been controversies over what led up to the killings, but it has just been bullcrap stories and more bullcrap stories. Just forget about these investigations because the feud between those two were stupid to begin with. In the end, weren't Big and Pac both paranoid about who were going to kill them and didn't they also trying to squash their beefs? Just listen to their last albums and watch the videos and interviews they did before their deaths, for more proof.

You do have a point! What was the real reason he was so big back in 97 when his debut album come out after the deaths of Pac and Biggie? Did he plot the deaths of those two just because he wanted to get his chance into the spotlight?

Can we read the full article? It seems like, what the news reported, was that the certain parts might be left out or something.

I don't think he was smart enough to even think that far into the future.. In my mind I see he knew that it was gonna go down. He was involved in that crew and east coast/west coast war. And when Biggie died he saw a huge opportunity to champion on that as a successful way to enter the rap/hip hop world.. and they bought into it and look at him now

Guess he got tired of standing in the background and getting his big singing part as "yeah".. and "uh huh"... and "thats right" in every Biggie song

When u consider that the FBI had ALL of these guys under surveillance before and after the murders, it's interesting that no one was ever charged.
