The verdict is Laswell has made a consciously topical sonically engaging lp with rappers, vocalists, musicians with icons each in their respected musical field. It's like a musical guerilla assault on your auditory senses . In a similar fashion and controlled the helm to keep each track under the 6 minute mark.

Listening to this as the market collapsing, gas prices and on the verge of war with Iran is fitting. Having Killa Priest,Hawkman,Iggy Pop,Mike Patton,Serj from SOD,Rammelzee from GettoVets,DXT,Bernie worrell. Bill got the right people for this record. Each track joins together in a engaging sequence.

The mixture of Funk,Metal,Dub,Dancehall,Jungle,Hip Hop,Ambient,Gothic pop really works well for the listening experience.

It's like a sonic apocalypse but only this time it's like Pandora's Box has opened and you realize it. He touches on jittering dark jungle rhythms here with various collaborators. Brain kills it on drums as always. "Babylon Blackout" is like a eye of the storm dub with melodica as the central point And when he ends the record "End Times" he ends it on the right somber melancholic swan Guitar note for the project. No tapping on this track just soulful string bending rendering of the theme.

I guess Laswell released this in Japan. But his Label deal in the u.s. still hasn't stepped up with a release date as usual. Why do cats still keep signing Laswell when they pretty much know what they are getting? For a rep? Back to the remix gig I guess.

I saw this sketch on Silent Watcher and thought this was cool:

Iggy Pop's lyrics for Furies is crazy.

"Jesus is a playboy and the world's on fire/Because the furies are loose" That's the first line. Iggy nails it.

No, because Las has good taste in lyricists. He has been part of the Hip Hop culture since the creation. He co created "Rock it" for godsake! Killa Priest fits the track perfectly. It's not like he got Snoop Dogg and Flo Rida to guest on it. Cmon man lol . Rammelzee is more of a spoken word as well.
It's not even noticeable.

Glad to hear about a new Praxis release. razz
How do you compare it to other Praxis albums?
I don't think they'll ever top Transmutations. Not much does.
Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Hmm I think without Bootsy in the equation is a tough one. But if I didn't tell you Bootsy wasn't on this and you heard Las's Mutron he has the feel of Bootsy on those rhythm tracks similar to what he did with Metatron lp. Granted he isn't vocally on this record but I mean these guys have schedules. And it just so happens Buckethead and Brain are always there in the picture on Praxis lp's. Maybe because they don't have a family like Bootsy probably

Honestly if you don't like these collaborators, I don't think you will be into it. I just so happen to like all of the collaborators.

Serj-I think SOD is our "Rage against the machine"since they left. They fill that vacuum.

-Killah Priest is Killa Priest. He's one of the best lyricists in the game. BIBLE was his "The Revolution will be televised"

-Iggy Pop is Iggy.

-Mike Patton deserves his spot without question what he has done for music isn't on par with many people. His catalog is crazy and he seems to be in great company.

Rammelzee- He has a good presence and he's a veteran from 2 decades ago.

DXT-You know, he's a turntable genius. There wouldn't be Qbert/I.S.P. or the X-ecutioners without this dude. His contribution can't be measured.

Everyone seems to fit even Hawkman, who I am not really familiar with. You know there are so many possibilities to this project who could be a collaborator. I dont think any B.L. project was made to follow a similar line or musical pattern. Praxis reminds me of Material in alot of ways it operates as a collective.

There is a difference in how it's presented track wise. I guess you could consider Bootsy as the frontman although that's a tricky thing because it was a introduction/vehicle to Buckethead as well. The length of tracks are tailored so it's a small dose to your system. Buckethead's guitar solo's are really succinct and the minimal solo's on this record work. I think it's the right record for the times. Las has that ability to orchestrate so many musical minds into one synergy that blasts out in different directions.

I was always impressed at how the Praxis sound morphed. I loved Meta Tron as much as I did Transmutation. I don't think I missed Bootsy because Zillatron was out around the same time too. I will say this, I like this record much better than I do the last Material lp. Which I thought was overloaded with Underground Hip Hop production and guests. So if that gives you a reference point, you might see where my preferences lie.

This is Praxis's most political lp. Everything from the cover to the subject matter. If you listen to Pastor Hagee sermons or Fox news you probably won't enjoy this. This is one of those records that doesn't need a cypher to relay the message.

I think the door is still open for Bootsy. And something tells me that this isnt the last Praxis lp. Because it would seem fitting if Bootsy did come back to the fold to close out the Praxis concept.

But you know Praxis wasn't really Praxis either. It was always a shape shifting ensemble as evidence of Mold ep. But I get what you are saying about Transmutation. I love that record BUT...I love Metatron equally as much. And the live lp's were sick as well.

I love project collaborative oriented lp's from Laswell with alot of instrumentation, arrangements, composition and improvisation. I like Last Exit,PainKiller,Material,Arcana I thought the Dub ambient Remixes of a remix of a remix were just to keep the lights on at GreenPoint. Not to say they didn't inspire anything. It was just like Lobby Music til you get to the "Event" or the "Ritual" if you dig what I am saying.

That's a slight example of the Laswell I like. I still think MetaTron was as dope as Transmutation. The music, track titles to the cover to the opening.

To me I cant think of anyone with as many ensembles as Laswell in the past 2 decades (going to three in a minute) where you just go "Wow... " Deadline/Praxis/Material/Last Exit/Arcana
I don't know if Quincy Jones knows Laswell or not. I doubt he knows him other than Rock It. But to me he is the QJ of the avant garde. He is a good ambassador for musical cultures & meshing personalities/energies in the studio.

Now maybe there is something to Bootsy's personality where he wants to more follow the path of Urban Radio and Clubs. Because his last lp was really european in it's presentation. But he's doing Science Faction project. So again maybe he didnt want to make the trip to Brooklyn.

Too soon to tell for me to say where I rate this.
So in summary it looks like you will like Transmutation more. lol

I'll certainly be looking for this. Laswellis gonna pick rappers who have more than the stripclub-hoochie mentality goin' and with the current sillyshit Bootsy has put out it doesn't look like I'd be missing him.

I'm sure it'll show up by summer in the used bins.
