Its also very self-indulgent, and very contradictory, first a wedding, than a swimsuit issue of Vibe and then a video about saying goodbye to lost family/friends after a video/single about touching my body. Like i said this, if it had to be a single, was best set for the final single of the album because i think in reality Mariah is feeling like the "gig" is up, meaning by the time she puts out her next record she will be 40+ and things at some point will have to change, especially in direction and just life for the most part. And hopefully this isnt a way to "pimp" your wedding, because if it is, that is beyond tacky. Oh please, did you forget that Never Too Far Away was released after Loverboy. And, who can forget One Sweet Day following Fantasy w/ ODB. Man, that flopped hard didn't? Since, when are you not allowed to have a video about saying goodbye due to what's going on personally. Mariah has her life outside of entertainment, and that's her jobe ENTERTAINMENT. I really don't get the point you're trying uber hard to make. Now, if you said the video sucked because it was mad random I'd agree. Actually "Never too far" was a flop single, despite having a new song on the flip side and being a "charity" single. And for One Sweet Day, it was the second single, but was first in the line of 3 straight ballads released so thats where she was, and also, it was timed around Boyz II Men's chart success. The point is that ballads are made to close records, and for this record that is deemed as the party album, to have the ballad as the number two single kills its momentum especially when there are much stronger tracks on this record. Always Be My Baby was the followup to One Sweet Day, so no, it wasn't the "first in a line of 3 straight ballads released". The rest of what you say is accurate. Ballads were also huge back in '95, and you really can't compare that period with what's on the radio now ('cause I don't see Celine Dion or Diane Warren churning out the #1's anymore).

Dont 4get though that "WE beong Together" was the second single from Mimi and Shake It Off (as a semi-slow song) and Dont 4Get About Us were released after it's Like That..the last video single being "Say Soemthing"...which is kind of odd...and didnt get no airplay for some strange reason. I heard "Fly Like A Bird" (the 6th release) get more air on R&B than that one. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Actually Mariah considers ABMB a ballad, and if songs like We Belong Together are called ballads, Always be my baby is far from being a "club banger" as the kids the say. Despite her doing remixes for ABMB, mariah remixes everything mainly her ballads back then. As for that time period, well, that would be why this single is in question, also, its not even a strong ballad, the last song on the album is a strong ballad/slow song, but the fact that it doesnt have that cheesy, midtempo RB beat it will never get released. But im sure that MC and Universal are sitting on some track that will surface just when this album loses its appeal and numbers and there will be a re-issue, timed right around the early fall, that would be how MIMI acheieved its 5 million, more than half were due to its re-issues. I agree that there are much better tracks on the album. However, since when are ballads meant to close an album? We Belong Together worked quite nicely as a 2nd single.

I don't really give a shit what Mariah considers ABMB. It's definitely not a ballad and no critic or commentator I've ever read denotes it as such. In fact, it's about as fast as she gets, beat-wise. It is a midtempo pop track, no different than Dreamlover, Touch My Body, etc. [Edited 5/6/08 15:05pm]

The song grew on me and will be a hit cause it follows the same formula as we belong together and don't forget about us musically, as do many songs on e=mc^2. I was surprised it was the second single too, cause I think For the Record is the best song on the album and would have been a better single, as would Side Effects or Love Story.

Bye Bye is the current single but it seems Migrate has been getting a lot of airplay. As a matter of fact, I was outside last week and a car was blasting the radio and I heard her introduce herself and say “this is my new single, Migrate”. The bass was sick, btw. All before I just figured stations (in my area) had taken it upon themselves to play Migrate regardless. I think I noticed that once or twice with her or other artists.
They'll just play another cut from the album even though it's not an official single. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

You're being far too cynical about Mariah's professional and personal life here. She may have had a plan to promote her first single, then her album, and the photo spreads and other stuff, but to claim that her whirlwind romance and nuptials was some type of PR stunt to promote her album is going too far. Maybe she really experienced love at first sight and didn't want to wait to spend the rest of her life with her true love. Remember, she wasn't even thinking about hooking up with anyone until literally about six weeks ago, and she historically has tended to keep most of her private life private, so I don't think her love life was a stunt to sell her album. In fact, it would probably hinder a lot of her plans. And also, I wouldn't be one to judge the order of her single release dates, since she has managed to have more number one singles than everyone except the Beatles. And her life is going to change simply by being married again unless this blows up in her face and she ends up seeking a divorce in six months. Then again, this could be the marriage that truly makes her happy and gets her to settle down and raise a family.

So much for Bye Bye but I’m not a chart-watcher anyway so I didn’t know where it was to begin with. The song(s) and album are gonna do what they do. I’m sure Mariah is enjoying her personal life right now. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

It's misleading and pointless to worry about this song's progress on the charts right now. This happens to all songs that debut with strong digital sales and no airplay. Digital sales fell sharply in its second week (after a strong album release week push for the song), but airplay is rising. This song will turn around.

A MESS!!!! If i didnt like this album already I SURE am hating on it now How come? Because anyone else could have sung half of those songs that she did. She only belted out and really sung on one track. The rest of the tunes sound like the same old stuff everyone else is doing...except for Loving You, That Chick, OOC, and I Wish You Well. Mariah has alwas been one to stand out to me and she just fades in the crowd on this album. I guess because of the work with James Poyser on Mimi, I had very high expectations as to real live music she did previously. THEN she make me mad by marring a guy in 5 weeks whom ....I dont know the guy..but it just makes her look immature and desperate for a marrige and a man. The tattos alone is rediculous. These put together are just too much for me and I just don't want to hear her voice right now. I dont hate HER..I just am dissapointed. Especially since I wasn’t invited to the wedding! But I don’t think she looks desperate. Maybe she finally decided to let her guard down. However, the tattoos is straight crazy. But I can’t help but be happy if she’s happy. Marriage is never forever but I hope while they’re together there is much joy for both of them. As for the album, it wasn't what I was expecting a lot more and I shouldn’t have read all those doggone reviews. But now I’ll get to see if what I’ve always wondered will come to pass—-a major life change possibly affecting the quality of her music. Only time will tell.
