Actually "Never too far" was a flop single, despite having a new song on the flip side and being a "charity" single. And for One Sweet Day, it was the second single, but was first in the line of 3 straight ballads released so thats where she was, and also, it was timed around Boyz II Men's chart success. The point is that ballads are made to close records, and for this record that is deemed as the party album, to have the ballad as the number two single kills its momentum especially when there are much stronger tracks on this record.

The rest of what you say is accurate. Ballads were also huge back in '95, and you really can't compare that period with what's on the radio now ('cause I don't see Celine Dion or Diane Warren churning out the #1's anymore).

I don't really give a shit what Mariah considers ABMB. It's definitely not a ballad and no critic or commentator I've ever read denotes it as such. In fact, it's about as fast as she gets, beat-wise. It is a midtempo pop track, no different than Dreamlover, Touch My Body, etc.

The song grew on me and will be a hit cause it follows the same formula as we belong together and don't forget about us musically, as do many songs on e=mc^2. I was surprised it was the second single too, cause I think For the Record is the best song on the album and would have been a better single, as would Side Effects or Love Story.

Bye Bye is the current single but it seems Migrate has been getting a lot of airplay. As a matter of fact, I was outside last week and a car was blasting the radio and I heard her introduce herself and say “this is my new single, Migrate”. The bass was sick, btw. All before I just figured stations (in my area) had taken it upon themselves to play Migrate regardless. I think I noticed that once or twice with her or other artists.
They'll just play another cut from the album even though it's not an official single.

You're being far too cynical about Mariah's professional and personal life here. She may have had a plan to promote her first single, then her album, and the photo spreads and other stuff, but to claim that her whirlwind romance and nuptials was some type of PR stunt to promote her album is going too far. Maybe she really experienced love at first sight and didn't want to wait to spend the rest of her life with her true love. Remember, she wasn't even thinking about hooking up with anyone until literally about six weeks ago, and she historically has tended to keep most of her private life private, so I don't think her love life was a stunt to sell her album. And also, I wouldn't be one to judge the order of her single release dates, since she has managed to have more number one singles than everyone except the Beatles. Then again, this could be the marriage that truly makes her happy and gets her to settle down and raise a family.

Because anyone else could have sung half of those songs that she did. She only belted out and really sung on one track. The rest of the tunes sound like the same old stuff everyone else is doing...except for Loving You, That Chick, OOC, and I Wish You Well. Mariah has alwas been one to stand out to me and she just fades in the crowd on this album. I guess because of the work with James Poyser on Mimi, I had very high expectations as to real live music she did previously.

THEN she make me mad by marring a guy in 5 weeks whom ....I dont know the guy..but it just makes her look immature and desperate for a marrige and a man. The tattos alone is rediculous. As for the album, it wasn't what I was expecting a lot more and I shouldn’t have read all those doggone reviews. But now I’ll get to see if what I’ve always wondered will come to pass—-a major life change possibly affecting the quality of her music. Only time will tell.

Hmm, that reminds me. I need to keep working on my “Classic” Mariah compilation. Mature, classic songs that stand the test of time. No rappers or references to alcohol allowed. All the nuptial excitement distracted me from my project.
