ya know....mariah is one clever bitch. these songs are all designed to be addictive. even the ones that didn't grab me at first, i find that i'm humming them later in the day. and the ones where the lyrics are atrocious (many of them), u wanna sing along anyway because she has such a knack for phrasing and the track is so catchy (that chick)

migrate - this one totally grows on you...and the adlibs at the end totally get ingrained in ur head

touch my body - almost perfectly designed pop hit. something to be said for that.

cruise control - this one is sick. if she doesnt put this out this summer then she's retarded

i stay in love - many seem to think this is like some kind of mandatory single or something. honestly, the first couple times i heard it i was like, "fuck off MC for creating this dreck that is an insult to your audiences intelligence." it struck as completely insincere and strictly written to get on the radio. i dont hate it as much now.

side effects - i think this one is really great and sort of different for her

i'm that chick - totally inane but a total classic. that refrain will never get out of ur head

love story - ok jermaine is gross for all that adlibbery. yea we know u produced the track now shut the fuck up and let somebody sing. its kinda pathetic and takes away from the song which is a really nice r&b ballad. i love her singing in this register. its like the one range of her voice that is still as strong as it ever was. ok i cant deal with the "boy, u know we t'rill.' (too real) line...i mean really? ur not that gutter, MC

i'll be lovin u long time - almost too perfect which makes me hesitant to like it. anything this likable from the get-go is not to be trusted

last kiss - filler but not horrible...and i'm seriously about to stab jermaine in the jaw

thanx 4 nuthin - love that 808 crunch and the 'always be my baby' synth-acoustic guitar. sort of fillerish but nice. its funny that jd's trax are among the most forgettable this time around compared to last time.

ooc - i can see why people hate this but i kinda like it. the beat takes me back to the 90s for some reason but i cant figure out why. another one that will get in ur head

for the record - kind of a grower. if it wasnt on a mariah album with such stellar songs, it would be massive for someone else

bye bye - this one is nice...and i like the personal sentiment of it. but the 'everybody throw ur hand up' kinda makes me feel like, 'damn...even in a personal song about ur dead father, u have ur mind on the pop audience.' ick.

i wish u well - i feel like this is the only song where she really shows off the pipes...maybe thats why she tacked it on last minute. its nice tho.

mimi, for me, really is standing the test of time and i'm not sure if this is one of those records or not. it's very "contemporory" sounding which can make things tend not to age well (x-girlfriend anyone?). if she makes some videos that dont make people hate (or laugh at) her, she could knock the beatles off the top.

I'm listening to Mariah's 2nd single "Bye Bye" on Wendy Williams as I type. It's pretty good. It sounds like something that you can expect to hear on the radio but yet it works. Maybe it's Mariah's voice but I like it. April 15th is more than a week away.
