Anyway here's my own list of the worst things to happen to music:

1.) The selling of Motown by Berry Gordy (prick)
2.) Marvin Gaye's daddy for killing him
3.) The marriage of hip-hop and R&B
4.) The guy who killed Jam Master Jay
5.) People filing suits against people who download free music especially when they can't afford to even buy CDs while bills are being paid
6.) Radio's reasoning for not playing music from established, older artists
7.) Everyone trying to be Michael Jackson or Madonna (STOP IT!)
8.) Rolling Stone
9.) Ozzy Osbourne doing reality television and hanging out with Dubya (ok, it was for one night but still)
10.) Metallica being pussies (one, for Napster, and two, for that movie they did about anger management or some shit)
11.) People using legendary groups' names to sell profit (even though they're not really a part of their history)
12.) The death of Ray Charles rose
13.) Everybody trying to be Biggie or Tupac (STOP IT!)
14.) Puffy
15.) Michael Bolton
16.) Percy Sledge being inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for ONE song yet Mary Wells (RIP) can't even buy her way in
17.) The deaths of James Brown and Bobby Byrd sad dove
18.) The cover of "What's Going On" by all your "favorite pop tarts" mad
19.) The Guinness Book of Records evillol
20.) Limp Bitch-Kit

The 2001 cover by N Sync, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, etc. Your girl did a great cover. biggrin That's why I said POP TARTS. I actually don't think Ms. Lauper is a pop tart at all.

It makes me wonder why most of us in the org don't have a music career of our own yet. If lousy artist can get a job in this industry so easily with almost no talent at all, why not us?!?

Fortunately, I've never heard the version you're referring to but it sounds sickening. Interestingly it was seeing this live version on TV that first made me realise how talented Cyndi was. I'd never seen a white girl perform with such commitment before.

People seem to hate hip hop a lot around here. Why not trace it back to its source? To the original repetitive, melodic-less style of funk.

Damn right. When funk died, that's when they needed to just stop making music altogether. If the music don't move your ass, the artist should be denied getting a recording contract. lol

1. Kids Today!
Back in our day, we didn’t have any of yer fancy iPods and ringtones and downloads. We didn’t have the luxury and convenience of your scrotum-rings and your World Wide Web logs. When we wanted to steal the new Uriah Heep album, we couldn’t just troll the Internets for it, we had to do it the old-fashioned way — by hiking to the store (uphill, both ways) and shoving 12” of vinyl under our sweaters (which we had to knit ourselves). That’s why you sniveling whipper-snappers don’t appreciate the real value of music. Or Uriah Heep. Now get the hell off our lawn!

Well, I have worse words for the RS readers lol

My solution: DON'T READ ANY MUSIC MAGAZINE, it would be better for our brains, and for our little personal economy...

47. Slash Quits GN’R
Paradise City officially became uninhabitable in 1996 when Slash walked out on Axl Rose, shattering one of the best, most rewardingly volatile relationships in rock history. Not only did the split force us to endure Slash’s Snakepit, but Guns N’ Roses became forever an ego-tripping punch line, with Axl — stubborn ex that he is — running through multiple replacements (including Howard Stern lookalike Buckethead) in a vain attempt to prove he doesn’t need his old partner.

I think when Izzy left that was really the beginning of the end. In my opinion he was far more important to Guns 'N Roses than Slash. Slash may be a great lead guitarist but Izzy wrote/co-wrote a lot of great songs.

I'm a huge Kiss fan but even I would concede that they have been living in the past but c'mon they still should be in the hall of fame. They were arguably the biggest American band of the '70s. (The Eagles and Aerosmith being the only competition) If you look at what Kiss did from 1974-1977 that alone should qualify them for a spot in the hall of fame.

The same argument could also be applied to Alice Cooper. Just what the original band accomplished from 1971-1974 should be enough to get them in the hall of fame.

I beg to differ to a certain extent.
It all depends on what magazines you're reading.

Publications like waxpoetics, JazzTimes and others of that ilk (along with certain instrument specific mags) that deal with the history of music/musicians and the mechanics of creating music, have been well worth the time and money.

Now the ones that are simply filled with Pop-Star Puffoonery, i'd agree with you.
