BET/Stevie Wonder*

My question 4 BET is how could they B thinking in a right state of mind and honor the careers of Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, (((Boyz 2 Men))), & Babyface.

With a "Walk Of Fame" Honoring a career/lifetime creating music greatness B 4 Stevie Wonder? This was the 8th year that BET has given this out. I fail 2 see the logic of a true historic great american musical genius like Stevie Wonder being honored after the likes of them other artist.

Stevie was making history & great music B 4 the births of some of them who were honored in the past, even B 4 some knew they had a voice. U start shows like "The Walk Of Fame" with a Stevie Wonder, not have him being the 8th honory after a Babyface!

What makes them feel Vandross has had a deeper & more profound impact in music, over Stevie? If Luthers career in music made it 2 the Walk Of fame B 4 Stevies then thats what BET is telling me. This man has put "MUCH" work in over so many many years...Wonder's creative quality can't even B touched by todays talent nor can they come close. Not 2 put down them other artist, but one has 2 feel that BET's system in place 4 selection of the Walk Of Fame is pure BULLSHIT!

Wheres James Brown? Wheres Aretha Franklin at? Do Y'all see the crime in these all time greats still not even honored as of yet by BET? Do U feel Babyface was more deserving then JB? Sad when U think that instead of the Temptations already being on the Walk, they have Boyz 2 Men...as if they are the legends.

On a positive note its always fantastic seeing Mr.Wonder. I was so happy 4 him, & I know he felt beautiful as the likes of Jill Scott Musiq, India Arie etc...showed him the upmost in love & respect~ The only thing missing of course was seeing Prince perform & expressing his thoughts on the man who he was compared 2 at the start of his career...

Well I guess the previously awarded acts were more current during the TV age is all. Not many James Brown promo videos get daily play on MTV.

So how was Stevie tribute concert? best performers? Worst? How was Stevie's new song?

Being current 2 the TV age or videos etc..has nothing 2 do or should not B the base 4 giving out a lifetime achievement award. Lifetime & current mean 2 different things. One holds much weight while the other is just a ?uestion mark with much proving ground 2 break & time yet 2 serve. U don't need MTV 2 tell the story of greatness...Pick up a damn book 4 those who don't know music history & whos truly deserving.

Well it's like MJ and Janet getting their wards with MTV, these TV channels have only been existing with musical images for last twenty or so years thus BET are more likely to look to the modern legends.

If it's a general music award I totally agree with you.

Michael Jackson Deserves His Period.MJ was Rocking before there was A Thing Called Music Video&Was The Real Deal.for Me A Michael Jackson,Stevie Wonder,Prince,Aretha Franklin,James Brown,Marvin Gaye,Earth,Wind&Fire,Parliament Funkadelic,Ray Charles,Quincy Jones,Smokey Robinson,etc.. Artists like those Deserve there Props but some of there choices are Suspect IMHO.BabyFace would be like good enough for there 80th Pick Maybe.Luther would be about 60 something pick.Boyz 11 Men about 150 th maybe?Whitney Houston I'd say about just outside the 50th Show.when I mention those Numbers I'm talking about Years it would take before they would get in if it were up too Me.

Par for the course. BET is a disgrace in many ways. Not nearly as good as it once was. I don't have time for it.

I don't really have much time to describe it right now, maybe later. But I thought it was fantastic.

The highlights for me was seeing Chante Moore perform "Do I Do" with the saxophonist and trumpet player. That rocked. Of course then, Ja Rule had to come up and ruin it with his hip hop version of Do I Do afterward. Pissed me off. Of course, the crowd seemed to think that was the highlight of the show...

Other thoughts- I thought Musiq showed that he does have some decent falsetto going on in his performance of Superstition, the medley of Stevie songs performed by Gerald Levert and Kelly Price were wonderful, and the gospel choir was cool as well. Jamie Foxx did a great job as host- I especially love his jokes making fun of Elton with the way he sang "Steevieeyuah"! Mr. Wonder got a real kick out of that. His speech was somewhat moving, just talking about how the leaders of the world are thinking about heading into World War 3, and questioning whether they have communicated with God about it. His new song was fantastic. I can't really remember the name of it, but it was something having to do with "I Can't Imagine love without you" or something like that. Just solo at the piano, it was like a classic Stevie ballad through and through.

Much better than any grammy show I've ever seen!

I didn't finish watching...

The reason for Stevie now is that "Neo-Soul" influence..

Neo's are big on that, "who influenced me from the 70's" thing.

I've heard someone say that, "most soul artists today sound like Stevie Wonder in a blender".

"Over-souling" is killing soul music.. It's getting worse live. Singers with half of a voice and range are "wobling" to compensate for their lack of talent and skill.

BTW: Where's Glenn Lewis?

I wanted to see Stevie take Lewis's songs and crush him [vocally] on stage.

They are running out of Artists..

Chaka should be next..

Anita Baker
Whitney
Mariah..still have some time to go.

Prince...Nah

Babyface (The Emptv "unplugged" was a similar tribute)

George Clinton? Nah.

Barry White - I hope that he pulls through...

I thought it was good I enjoyed it alot. Jamie Foxx was pretty damn funny. He really took Elton Johns "STEVIEEEYOO" something like that...lol, it was the way Elton said Stevies name as he was singing his name in a song etc...

He would not let it go Jamie kept the crowd cracking up by telling the people that I guess thats what "putting some stank in it means"...U got 2 hear it 2 really know...but Stevie was rollin as it carried on 2 the very end when Stevie got up 2 speak saying (Stevieeeyoo) and once again cracking up...He was in great spirits as alwayz.

He gave a deep far reaching speech about being on the brink of a world war 3...and asked the heads of each country if they had a talk with God about this first? Not word 4 word of his speech but 2 sum it up, it was very moving. He then performed a new song from a fourth coming album etc and did what he does best...

I felt India Arie out of all the woman who performed really hit it right with the perfect song sung as perfect as it can B done. She having had the Stevie Wonder song off her debut was letting everyone there but more important Stevie feel that she was truly was inspired by his beautiful genius like no other...

Musiq was koo...looked alittle sloppy how he came out like he was rushin 2 put his outfit on...lol hes koo...Jill Scott was kool ...she put it down with that voice. Brian Mcknight I felt did the best job of the men, as he on piano did 2 Wonder classics. Dru Hill...I skipped, G. Levert did his thang ...Fred Hammon was great 2 hear.

Chante Moore...well I tell U what I wanted alot more...Pure beauty...she was blowin~ KC & Jo Jo...well they was luke warm but somebody tell these brothas how 2 dress 4 such a event...they most have thought they was singing 2 there own fans...That leaves the worse 4 last...Ja Rule sounded like hot trash...i could not make out one damn word and I thought his whole street look with a young Stevie on a shirt was kinda well...he just should not of been there that nite.

Now don't get me wrong...Ja Rule represents how Wonders music can cross the tracks over into hip-hop etc...But then if thats the case Will Smith would have worked into the show alot better...thats just my take. There were others but I really need 2 go...but i'll say in parting that more old skool artist should have been performing. But 2hrs on T.V. U can only show so much right...

PS...the horn players were skin tight!

Perhaps so, this concert ties in as a commercial for the "Definitve Collection" CD. The other prospective date would have been along with next years new album.

there's a chance that the Definitive Collection CD will sell some copies and benefit from the concert. why waste it on something that's going to sell 200,000 tops next year?
