Since I am the only person that loves this album, I have to express my protest against the way Sony handled this DD release.

Okay so "Falling Down" was a great first single with a great video...It was a classic duran duran ballad...

But where's the second single???

No "Tempted", no "Nite-runner", no "Red carpet massacre"???

And please don't come with that argument that is not duran duran...there's still Nick Rhodes synth in it...he's the soul of Duran Duran...

Hey, I love it as much as (if not more than) you do! I think "Tempted," "Nite-Runner," "The Valley," or the title track backed with "Cry Baby Cry" would be the best single, but they have a lot of options.

I realize Sirius isn't the end all of promotion but Duran Duran pushed the album there for a month and they played new songs on many different stations (popular ones....they even went on Howard Stern, probably something Sirius pushed him into). Anyway, I heard a lot of the album and if I would have liked it, I would have bought it. I bet the same is true with others. It just didn't do anything for me.

That's funny, because weren't people just saying that Danja and Timbaland are so similar it's hard to tell them apart. I think having Danja work on every track (besides "Falling Down") gives the album a consistency that I love (but I can see why others wouldn't). I don't think "Nite-Runner," "Skin Divers," and "Zoom In" (the 3 Tim & Danja tracks) are so much better than the others. I do think "Nite-Runner" should've been the first single, though.

I LOVE Red carpet massacre, is the best and most consistent DD album since the Wedding album; I don't understand why some people say this is not a DD album: tracks like The Valley, title track, Falling Down, Zoom in or Dirty great monster have the classic DD sound but with a modern twist, and the Timbaland tracks are pretty good, Nite Runner, Tempted and Skin divers are awesome.
Hmmm, surely, the non-hardcore fans have thought "uggh, a Timbaland produced album, pff, this is disgusting" () while the young people who know R.Kelly, Timberlake or Timby clearly doesn't know DD, because the young people doesn't know any other band older than Nirvana Conclusion: only some of the hardcore fans have bought the album...
Sony's promotional campaign has been terrible ; if I were Nick I would spit in Sony's executives faces, I mean, c'mon: how does it feel when you release a strong new record with one of the hottest producers of the moment but your company doesn't give you support or a decent marketing campaign???

By the way, it seems that the lack of success of RCP means that we won't have a new DD world tour

BTW I think you and I are the only ones that liked the album. Though I really dislike the title song. I also think Falling Down was a bad leadoff single, as it misled expectations of what the album was going to sound like. Tempted would have been better.

As much as I do like the album, I feel the production was unnecessary. You can hear Duran Duran songs buried deep in the album but all polished with new beats. In general, I don't feel a band needs a troupe of producers like that.

I really love the album, too.
I'm not a hardcore fan of their older stuff, so maybe it is true that hard core fans didn't like it and that was why it failed.
I read somewhere a lot of their older fans didn't like the record. Or maybe they were just biased against Timbaland and weren't really willing to give the record a chance.
But to me having heard their older stuff on the radio, it doesn't sound that different to me than their earlier stuff. They still maintain their essential sound, just more modern and updated.
I think it would have been a good idea to release Nite Runner as the first single. I think it's never a great idea for any artist to release a ballad as their first single.

To quote a friend at a label, he called late October releases and Early November releases, "DUMPING". This is when they just throw a record out there, and pray, no promo $$, no support, they just pray that loyals buy it and they make back their investment. I knew this record wasnt going to catch on, for many reasons, one was the timing, two was the change in sound and direction, and three was the loss of any guitar on the record, knowing that the first version they submitted was a totally different vibe of a record, and sounding record.

The mythical "Reportage" album...

The reports on Andy's departure are blurry. I read once that he blames DD's management and that they signed an agreement that that material can't be released.

Ive heard a million reasons into Andy's departure, some said he fell "off the wagon" again and had alcohol issues, ive heard creative direction issues, writing issues, and not getting along with Nick and Simon issues. But the fact is they need a guitar player back, be it andy or warren, they need a someone in there that can play, as opposed to studio-tour fill ins.
