Remember when Sting became frustrated because his songs weren't receiving a lot of airplay, and he sold one of his songs to be used in that car commercial? Then it became a hit! Also a lot of younger artists sell their music to be used in advertisments, and as a result, their music gets airplay. Didn't Feist use one of its song in a commercial?

Maybe Janet needs to think outside the box, and try marketing her songs, while pitching a car or something? It's worked for other artists?

Exactly.Madonna's new single "4 Minutes" is being used in a Sunsilk commercial, and it will also be featured in a new movie called "Get Smart".Artists have to be more creative in the way they market and promote their music. They have to think outside the box. They can't sit back and rely on the record labels to do all the work.

I've seen the commercial and it's well done. People WILL pay attention to it, I just know it. Janet could have used Feedback in a commercial, it would have worked perfectly.

The moment her album came out it was on Limewire. You could download the whole thing for free, so the fact that she still is selling copies is a good thing. Same can be said for every artist out today. With internet downloading, if they can sell more than 50,000 copies the first week out, they are doing a good job in my opinion. I would have rathered her have released "LUV" after "Feedback", but she released "Rock With U", so shrug . Personally, I don't know why it matters if an artist has a flop or not because the record label is the one pocketing the majority of the money. If Janet tours, I'm sure she won't be playing to empty chairs and the majority of that money is going into her pocket, so fuck the album sales and put out a kick-ass tour, Janet.

Nope, completly inaccurate

Illegal downloading has not affected first week sales at all...

In fact artists in this decade have sold more records in their first weeks than ever

And yeah you can largely sell over 50,000 copies in the first week out...

This what every successful artists are doing these days

Janet DID have "Feedback" running in commercials...they were all in Tyra's Top Model ads for her 10th season premiere. The song was also in another commercial where the woman sits down on her home computer...they even showed the album cover at the bottom corner.

In the first half of the decade, absolutely! N Sync, Britney, BSB and Eminem sold million plus with their first weeks, Janet got her highest first week ever and so forth, but now it's gotten really low. Alicia Keys first week was a number 1 album, but those numbers are the second lowest first week sales EVER.

Wrong,Alicia's album sold over 700.000 copies in its first week. That was one of the biggest debut ever for a female artist.

It's mostly the 'newer' artists who have those extremely high first week numbers....Justin Timberlake,Kanye West,Alicia Keys,Beyonce, etc.Still,an artist of Janet's stature should do at least 300,000 in the first week.Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 'Damita Jo' did at least that much in its first week?

I was talking about alicia's latest album. Well if it did that well, what was Billboard talking about? Maybe I mixed it up with another story?

And yeah, Damita Jo sold over 300,000 copies in it's first week, it was the second highest first week total of her career, even beating janet.

Oh? Well hell then. lol lol

How about using "Can't Be Good" in a commercial? Of course I guess the lyrics "This Can't be Good..." aren't really conducive to selling something..

I like the song though..

I think Rock With You would make a good commercial tune for Ipod or something like that??

Janet Jackson should've released "20 Years Old" only as a greatest hits CD, a sequel 2 "Design of a Decade: 1986-1996". Like this:

20 Years Old
1: Control
2: What Have You Done for Me Lately?
3: Nasty
4: Miss You Much
5: Rhythm Nation
6: Alright
7: Black Cat
8: That's the Way Love Goes
9: If
10: Again
11: You Want This
12: Scream
13: Runaway
14: Together Again
15: Doesn't Really Matter
16: All for You
17: Just A Little While
18: All Night (Don't Stop)

Then waited till 2008 to release her new studio CD, by putting 2gether the best trax. Like so:

Discipline
1: So Excited
2: Show Me
3: With U
4: Call on Me
5: Daybreak
6: Enjoy
7: Take Care
8: Love 2 Love
9: Feedback
10: Luv
11: Rollercoaster
12: Rock With U
13: 2Nite
14: Can't B Good
15: Greatest X/Never Letchu Go
16: So Much Betta
17: The 1
18: Discipline.

Then she'd have another Greatest Hits CD out & another hit album. Instead of 2 flops out in a row...shrug

So what happened this week? The number total didn't really change? I mean, there is zero promotion and sadly, "Feedback" is done with neither of the other singles doing all that well right now. If Janet gets back out there, it won't hurt at all. What is the total so far? 300+ I would assume.

This is tabloid shit, but apparently reports are saying she had a heart mild heart attack? eek sad

I hope everything is ok with her health. Ya know, she could have had some sort of heart attack... Even people in their 20's drop dead from heart attacks.. sad

I know you didn't just advocate a Janet Jackson hits album without "When I Think of You," "The Pleasure Principle," "Let's Wait Awhile," "Escapade," "Come Back to Me," "Love Will Never Do (Without You)," "Any Time, Any Place," and "I Get Lonely." brick

That might be a record for most hits left off a hits album (7 Pop and/or R&B #1 hits -- "Come Back to Me" peaked at #2 on both). A companion to Design of a Decade starting with janet. would've been a much better idea.

heart attack?! eek eek eek eek

I still want Design of a Decade part 2: The Virgin Years! Pick up exactly where DOAD took off!

1. New Song
2. If
3. You Want This
4. Anytime Anyplace
5. Again
6. Because of Love
7. Got Til Its Gone
8. Together Again
10.I Get Lonely
11.Go Deep
12.Doesnt Really Matter
13.All For You
14.Someone to Call My Lover
15.All Nite (Dont Stop)
16.Call on Me
17.So Excited
18.New Song

...they owe it to us!

As for consolodating the last 3 into ONE album - hell no! They are all 3 superior to most pop/R&B albums of the 00s by popular music artists period!

On "Damita Jo" I would remove "Just A Little While," "Truly," and add "Put Your Hands On."

20 Y.O. could do without "Show Me" and "Daybreak," IMO and "Roll Witchu" should definitely be up front - hell it should have been a single!

"Discipline" needs to drop "Greatest Ex" and "Never Letchu" and that horrid Janet-talking-ghetto-17-year-old interlude "Bathroom Break," then it's grade A, stellar, solid in every way!
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

Yes.. apparently the Enquirer and Wendy Williams said Janet didn't have the flu or maybe she did, but also had symptoms of having a heart attack! sad sad

I don't know if this is true, and obviously nobody else does either, but the report is scary enough.

Ya know.. it's not far-fetched considering even world class athletes have heat attacks and die. Remember Sergei Grinkov dropping dead of a heart attack while rehearsing for Stars on Ice with Katerina? He was only 28 years old and in the picture of health. So..

Right. I mean, Wendy Williams and the Enquirer. One probably made it up and the other went with it. Even though beyond too little too late, a greatest hits would have made more sense for Virgin rather than obviously rushing into "20 YO". At this point, of course Virgin should come up with a decent compilation. Already sort of stated but I think it should include....."That's the Way..." since I don't think Virgin would acknowledge "Design" including it...It being off the album would be strangely noticable. I think surprising addtions would have to include from the last two albums "All Nite", "Just A Little While", "I Want You", "Call On Me" (which among them, was a lousy track but an R&B hit), and "So Excited". I'm sure there is something in the vaults worth releasing, especially if she wants "Ruff" out on album.

actually, the control & RN tracks are under A&M, unlike the rest that are under Virgin. That's the reason why Design of a Decade only had TTWLG and on bonus version, Whoops Now. Many complained that If, Again and other janet. album tracks were missing from it. It's costly to get tracks from another label onto one label's album. That is also the reason why Doesn't Really Matter wasn't included on the All For You DVD and janet to damita jo DVD's, as it was released under Def Jam with the Nutty 2 soundtrack.

So far,the album has sold a little more than 300,000 copies.Interestingly, her brother's 'Thriller 25th anniversary' set is actually out-selling 'Discipline'.Who would have thought?

Janet should concentrate on a summer tour.A successful, soldout tour will make people forget about the disappointing album sales.

IDJ have fucked her and themselves royally with this one. they were on a great track with 'feedback' by releasing it when they did - and had some momentum with airplay - but then they go and release THREE different singles at THREE different formats simultaneously?! WTF? everyone should know rock with u is not radio friendly in the US

i still think rollercoaster would have made the killer single of the bunch...
