The Mariah and Janet comparisons are pretty immature...two totally diff artist, one is a vocalist and the other is an entertainer.

I think American pop culture has pretty much blacklisted the Jacksons family....just a case of too much bad publicity. Also, some of her youinger fans who are now in their 30's/40's maybe into diff genres of music, so that leaves the teenagers of current pop culture who would probably go with Ciara, Rihanna, or whomever is doing pop dance music. Also, many people look at artist who were hot in the 80's as old and past their prime. All of the popular radio stations seem to feed into this idealogy. For example, the name of the site we are on for starters....I was pretty sure, the 1 u want 2 see, was going to be a pop hit for Prince and I was sure, the Greatest X eva eva, eva...would be a commercial hit for Janet as well. But shit, I don't know a damn thing anymore. What if Rihanna or Jessica Simpson sings - The Greatest Ex, would it have received airplay then?

It's like LL Cool J's beef with def jam, once the radio stations deem you to be not cool anymore, or not in demand or hot, they control your airplay and dictate to the younger audience who will be hot. I'm suprised Jermaine's popular influence didnt give additional airplay for Janet? I would have figured at least in Atlanta he could have goten Janet mucho airplay?...doesn't Jay Z pay stations to play his music?...I don't know it just seems like nobody wants Janet to be popular anymore...except us, her die hard fans typing on this thread and her other fan sites.

Final suggestion and realization: Janet, give it up, forget about being a pop star, you came out with a very solid CD and no one seems to give a fuck about it, what does that tell you?.....focus on acting or just doing the music you love to do from your heart, forget about getting all of these hot producers, just do shit for your fans if u stil want to stay in the game. Go back to Jimmy Jam and Terry and just give us some vintage Janet shit for your die hard fans.

This is going to sound absolutely crazy and I am probably alone here but I don't think of Janet as "a Jackson". Maybe its because I really bought into her effort to market herself as "Janet". Not sure. But it isn't until she does one of those interviews where someone has to ask about Michael and I'm like "Oh, yeah....that baggage!". I like MJ but Janet is on another level for me. Now I'm probably alone but I think that for a long time Janet was so separate from that entire Jackson clan...could she be back in the family whether she likes it for not?

I agree that as much as I like "Discipline", no way her heart is in it. I think that will definately help if Janet makes an album she loves...that way she will push it more as well.

And being white, I probably wouldn't know 'real' black music when it bit me in the ass, however I do seem to remember Janet's most 'black' album (The Velvet Rope) was her last good - and popular one. While all her poppy popsong efforts after that - which apparently rule the charts these days, have bombed.
